FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Women wear many hats throughout their lives—wife, mother, grandmother, friend, carer, mentor—the list is endless. But amidst all the giving, its easy for their emotional tanks to run dry. In her heartfelt debut novel, The Stars at Night, Merrin Cameron offers women a powerful reminder: no matter the challenges they face, they are never truly alone—and they are capable of far more than they often believe.

Although Merrin spent much of her professional life writing briefs, projects, and reports, she always harbored a dream to write fiction—something that would not only bring her joy but also encourage and uplift others. After recently completing studies in Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care, Merrin felt a strong calling to help women navigate lifes complexities through storytelling.

I first married when I was 19. I was so in love with my farmer and thought wed grow old together, raising our family on the land,” she shares. But my fairytale ended when he passed away at just 47, leaving me a widow with four children.” Now remarried for over 13 years, Merrin has travelled extensively across Australia with her husband, John. It was during these travels, writing longhand in their caravan, that Part 1 of The Stars at Night came to life.

Over the years, Merrin has walked through deep valleys of grief and uncertainty—but also climbed mountaintops of joy and renewal. Through it all, she has leaned into her faith: No matter what happens, if we lean into Jesus, He will comfort us, shower us with love and grace, and guide us forward.”

Set in the rural Western Darling Downs of Southern Queensland, The Stars at Night is a contemporary novel brimming with real-life drama, moments of laughter, and unexpected twists. The story follows Kath Wilmont as she journeys from a broken childhood and shattered confidence to a happy life of hope, only to face despair once again. As Kath navigates fear, new opportunities, and fresh trials, readers are drawn into an emotional journey of healing and self-discovery.

The novels vivid depictions of farm life, the Australian bush, and rainforest landscapes add an authentic and immersive feel. At its core, The Stars at Night is a story of Gods faithfulness, the power of prayer, the importance of friendship and family, and the promise of new seasons.

With relatable characters and a down-to-earth storyline, Merrins debut resonates deeply with readers. Its not just a book for women,” she says. Ive had feedback from male readers who also found it enjoyable, inspiring, and meaningful.”

Merrin lives with her husband in the rural town of Dalby, Queensland. Between them, they have six children and eleven, soon to be twelve, grandchildren. She is actively involved in her local church, leads a Ladies Life Group, serves on two boards, and regularly visits those in aged care.

The Stars at Night, published by Ark House, is now available globally.
