Just six months after getting married, she and her husband borrowed money, bought a beautiful old wooden sailboat, and sailed it from Washington to Juneau, Alaska—a 3½-week voyage through Canada filled with humpback and killer whales, eagles, bears, and wild, untamed beauty. They lived aboard the boat for several years, an adventure that left a lasting mark on their hearts.
