New book will inspire children to see God’s hand in the world around them
FAITH NEWS SERVICE – On a cold December night in Alaska, a young child laces up their skates and glides across a frozen lake beneath the glow of a full winter moon. Lanterns flicker like fireflies, the ice shimmers, and the world feels hushed and magical. Then the sky comes alive—bursting into brilliant reds and greens as the Northern Lights dance overhead.
With her grandfather’s gentle wisdom by her side, the child learns that these breathtaking lights are more than a wonder of nature—they are a reminder of God’s love and the beauty of His creation.
Midnight Colors is a heartwarming story filled with faith, family, and awe, inviting children to recognize God’s hand in the world around them and cherish the moments that quietly point to His love.
Inspired by true experiences, Midnight Colors was born during the years the author lived in Alaska—years filled with magic that few people ever get to experience. Ice-skating on a flash-frozen lake beneath snow-covered mountains and glowing Northern Lights wasn’t imagined; it was real. Those unforgettable nights, shared with friends and family, became the spark for a children’s story full of adventure and wonder.
Carrie Fields, the author of Midnight Colors, has had a life shaped by extraordinary journeys. Just six months after getting married, she and her husband borrowed money, bought a beautiful old wooden sailboat, and sailed it from Washington to Juneau, Alaska—a 3½-week voyage through Canada filled with humpback and killer whales, eagles, bears, and wild, untamed beauty. They lived aboard the boat for several years, an adventure that left a lasting mark on their hearts.
After starting a family, they eventually returned to California, settling in Lake Tahoe, where that same sense of awe and gratitude continues to inspire stories rooted in faith, adventure, and the wonder of God’s creation.
Midnight Colors is a heartwarming story that will inspire children to see God’s hand in the world around them and treasure the special moments that point to His love. It can be used for education on the Northern Lights, kmnown as the Aurora Borealis. All almost like a very young science lesson. Published by Ark House, it is now available globally.
