FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Gilbert, AZ — 6 October, 2026 — What if the most beautiful gift of Christmas isn’t found under the tree but in the grace we give and receive?
In her new children’s picture book, The Colorful Christmas Kerfuffle (Redemption Press, 2026), author and educator Wendy Bower invites families into a joyful North Pole adventure that gently teaches humility, restoration, and the gift of forgiveness through Jesus.
When Natalie the elf decides red and green are simply too boring, her colorful plan leads to unexpected chaos and a tender lesson about love, mistakes, and taking ownership. Inspired by the prodigal son (Luke 15), Bower connects Christmas tradition to gospel truth in a way young children can understand.
Designed for ages four through eight, the book helps families and ministries
• open conversations about shame, repentance, and grace;
• connect Advent traditions to the heart of Jesus;
• teach that mistakes are not the end of the story; and
• celebrate restoration as a reason for joy.
“Children often feel shame deeply but don’t have words for it,” says Bower. “I wanted to show that taking ownership leads to celebration, not rejection.”
The Colorful Christmas Kerfuffle is available through Redemption Press, Amazon, and major online retailers.
