Seasons of Faith

The Perfect Gift: “Seasons of Faith” is a Soul-Stirring Read For Those Who Love the Outdoors—and the One Who Created It

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – United States—Monday, May 26, 2025

A great book for those wanderes, seekers, and treckers in your life that speaks to both their adventurous spirit and their faith. In “Seasons of Faith: Trusting Jesus with Every Outcome,” author and outdoorsman Mitchell W. Smith invites readers into the wild beauty of the Inland Northwest—and into deeper trust in God through every season of life.

Whether he’s recounting a close call with a black bear, sharing the quiet grief of losing a beloved dog, or describing the thrill of chasing a solar eclipse across the Northwest, Smith writes with grit, grace, and good humor. These are stories for the man who finds peace in the woods, purpose in challenge, and glimpses of God’s glory in fresh air and rugged trails.

With its blend of short, engaging chapters, thoughtful reflections, and lyrical poetry, “Seasons of Faith” is easy to pick up—and hard to put down. It’s the perfect devotional companion for those men and women who don’t typically read devotionals.

Why it’s a great gift:

  • Written from the authors perspective, with stories that speak to real-life experiences outdoors and in
  • Combines humor, storytelling, and spiritual depth without being preachy
  • Invites reflection without requiring long reading sessions
  • Looks great on a coffee table or tucked into a backpack for a weekend away

“Imagine Patrick McManus meets John Muir meets psalmist King David—and you have some idea of what awaits you in Mitch Smith’s new book,” writes Joe Wittwer, founding pastor of Life Center in Spokane.

Seasons of Faith” is the second book in Smith’s Throughline series, following “A Litany of Praise,” and continues the authors journey of learning to trust Jesus with every outcome. With themes of perseverance, wonder, and wild grace, it’s a refreshing, faith-filled read for men and women of all ages.

Mitchell Smith’s paperback will be available on Tuesday, May 27; with the e-book free to download on Amazon for 5 days, Tuesday, May 27 through May 31, 2025.

Everyman Poet Reflects on Life, Faith, and the Majesty of God’s Creation in New Release

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Poetry is defined as “Writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm.”[1]

Sometimes, poetry comes from a well of unusual sources and experiences, other times it finds its origin in everyday life.

Mitchell W. Smith, whose background is in construction and who defines himself as a seeker, writes poetry and prose for fellow seekers and wanderers. In A Litany of Praise: Encountering God in the Everyday (Redemption Press) Smith reflects on his experiences in the outdoors, people he’s met, and his encounters in nature through prose and poetry.

His poems on faith and the glories of God’s creation are introduced by relevant vignettes on down-to-earth topics such as growing up in the inland Northwest, ranch families, fellow workers, open-hearted rural churches, elk hunting, log cabin building, huckleberry picking and bears, rural characters, justice, and steps of faith taken.

These delightful, often humorous meditations are paired with poems on finding God in the everyday and give us a taste of the outdoors, the wonder of creation, and the majesty of God, in fresh, compelling language.
