FAITH NEWS SERVICE – “We’re a messy work in progress, and the process can be painful,” says debut author Vicky Wedel. The Edmond, Oklahoma, resident writes about traveling on “life’s messy road” in a new release appropriately titled The Messy Narrow Road: A Fellow Traveler’s Tips and Encouragement (Redemption Press). She adds, “No matter the source, God promises that nothing will go to waste . . . Whatever ash heap we or others have made, He’ll bring beauty from it.”

The Messy Narrow Road is a collection of forty encouraging devotionals, each one accompanied by an original poem, and space for a journaling response. Vicky Wedel is new to writing, and especially writing poetry. Before 2017 she hadn’t written devotionals or poems, finding most poetry “dark and confusing.” But one day, she says, “God started laying words upon my heart. So I began writing poems; then later devotionals.” Encouraged by friends to write a book, she found the poems she had already written matched the new devotionals she produced.

The wife and mother of two calls herself a thirty-six-year veteran of the messy narrow road. Dedicated to learning God’s Word, character, and heart, she says the Lord has used personal trials as well as ministry involvement in Bible Study Fellowship and Celebrate Recovery as her training ground for growth. She loves to encourage others and offer struggling travelers a helping hand by sharing what God has taught her.

Practical and inspirational encouragement for hard times and good, this book is filled with Scripture, and centered in the character of God.
