Rhyming Picture Book on Salvation Introduces Children to Jesus

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – A study from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that children who regularly pray and attend church grow up to report a stronger sense of community and fewer symptoms of depression. They tend to “think about their health in a holistic way, where the mind, body and spirit are all connected,” says Jane Kuepfer, a specialist in spirituality and aging at Conrad Grebel University College at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.1

Helping children build their spiritual foundations “set[s] the stage for the child’s future and help[s] them to develop those faith-based habits to prepare them for when they reach an age where they can begin to reflect on and understand the different aspects of faith.”2

One way to introduce young children to faith in Christ is through picture books. In Jesus in the Driver’s Seat (Redemption Press), Rachael A. McCloskey takes the unique approach of explaining salvation and conversion through the metaphor of motorized machines.

In this sprightly and spirited picture book sprinkled with scripture, children will join Jesus in mighty machines from fire trucks to excavators as he rescues, protects, and helps them build a brand new heart-home full of peace and joy. And amid the constructive teamwork, they’ll see how asking Jesus to “take the driver’s seat” can keep them safe with him forever.

“My heart’s desire and prayer has been to teach children who Jesus is and what He does for them once they accept Him into their heart,” says McCloskey. “My book merges a child’s love for machines along with learning who Jesus is and what He can do for their heart in both a practical and playful way.

They will discover that Jesus is their best friend, and their faith will be expanded by learning that He heals, delivers, provides for us a foundation, and so much more.”

With Jesus in the Driver’s Seat, vehicle-loving kids will be ready to zoom off into the adventure of salvation.
