FAITH NEWS SERVICE – United States—Monday, January 27, 2025

Robert D. Flanagan’s Courage to Thrive: Discovering Your True Self paperback will be available tomorrow January 28, 2025 and ebook free to download for five days through February 1, 2025.

In a world often filled with uncertainty and rapid transitions, Courage to Thrive: Discovering Your True Self by Robert D. Flanagan provides a guiding light for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of themselves, their faith, and their purpose in life. This six-week Bible study equips readers to thrive—not just survive—by embracing their identity as a child of God and exploring the relationships that shape them.

“Who am I?” It’s a question nearly everyone asks at some point. In Courage to Thrive, Flanagan invites readers to dive into this question through a unique blend of self-discovery tools, daily prayers, and reflections on scripture. Each of the study’s thirty-six lessons leads participants on a journey of hope, growth, and transformation. By engaging with directed Bible readings, inspirational commentaries, and curated links to poems, art, and music, readers are encouraged to explore their relationships—with themselves, others, the world, and God—in a meaningful and healthy way.

“We thrive when we relate to who and what is around us in a healthy manner,” says Flanagan. “We can discover ourselves—who we are—in beautiful, elegant, hope-filled, and positive ways.” This book is designed to help people step into that journey with confidence and joy.

Rev. Barbara C. Crafton praises the book, calling it “eminently useful” and highlighting its creative approach to self-discovery as “a complex and holy discovery of one’s true self.”

Whether you are navigating a major life transition or simply longing to deepen your faith, Courage to Thrive offers practical tools and timeless truths for personal and spiritual growth.

Robert D. Flanagan’s Courage to Thrive  paperback will be available on Tuesday, January 28; with the e-book free to download on Amazon for 5 days, Tuesday, January 28 through February 1, 2025 Courage to Thrive debuted to rave reviews! Here’s what just a couple of the reviewers have said:

5 Stars – Spiritual Practice

Coming to Christianity from a spiritual background in Shaivism, I have often felt a lack of instruction on spiritual practice. My guru was very clear about what our daily practices should be, but in the church it seemed to be left up to me…to to do what? Pray, read the Bible, go to church. I looked for more guidance on ways to grow spiritually, and deepen my faith. Rev. Flanagan offers such a practice in this book. Each chapter clearly defines a focus of contemplation and practice, each chapter building a deeper sense of onesself in relationship…ultimately to God and His Creation. This will be a perfect Lenten practice, especially with a group.

5 Stars Integrates relational, psychological, spiritual into a practical tool for personal growth.

I love that Rev Flanagan’s experience is multi-faceted, as a priest/theologian with mental health experience and interest/study of philosophy, it all comes through in his book. Readable, pragmatic style. Easy to incorporate into a self-discovery journey.
