New Redemption Press release shows that female baldness can be beautiful

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Even a plethora of products and wigs couldn’t compete with the beauty found within a fierce soul that lived in complete freedom.*

“Fierce. My little sister called me her fierce friend.”

Fierce implies that we are not afraid to step out from the shadows that the enemy casts on us. And for decades, singer and lyricist Carol Chisolm was not fierce and lived in the voiceless shadows of a shame- and fear-based identity that trapped her like a cocoon. Carol has alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that attacks the hair follicles, resulting in hair loss. She covered her imperfections and increasing hair loss with expensive products and a dresser lined with pretty wigs.

And she didn’t feel any better—on the inside, at least. For over thirty years, she lived with a false sense of self—until one balmy, rainy day. As she sat playing the piano, that inner self-esteem bomb exploded. She threw away her boxes of hair products and heavy wigs—and shaved her head. A shiny, beautiful bald.

Chisolm says, “I wasted so much time hiding myself, when God just wanted to get glory through my life.” She had been so bound by chains of insecurity, low self-worth, and fear of being made fun of for her baldness that she couldn’t hear God’s voice of freedom. He was her confidence, her strength, her visibility. “Let’s go free inwardly,” Chisolm encourages, “and loose those outward bonds and chains that bind us spiritually. If we truly uncover ourselves, we will be surprised how God shows His love for us.”

Now she lives with radiant freedom in Christ and sings to the world, “I have alopecia, but it doesn’t have me,” reminding others that they too have an identity worth living. Carol uses her songwriting passion to create songs of inner freedom and peace. Join her on Facebook every Wednesday for “Wednesday Worship.” Her latest single, “Wonderfully Made,” is available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, and Amazon Music.

If you find yourself questioning your identity, your worth, and your purpose, Breaking the Shadows will help you accept your flaws and imperfections, and insecurities. If you have ever felt cut off from the world, this book will empower you to step out from behind the shadows and gently, courageously lead you on a freedom path, with action steps to reclaim your inner self.

Carol says, “God doesn’t make any mistakes. You are fearfully and wonderfully made by God. You can walk in liberty, understanding who you are in Christ.”
