Author’s new children’s book aims to help kids keep fun and imagination in their worlds

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Childhood is such a precious season in life. However, like a puff of wind, it is gone oh so quickly.

Penelope Drake-Lorraway is a children’s author based in Brisbane, Australia and the motivation for her new book, A Cactus Tried To Grow In My Garden, is to help children keep the fun alive.

Set in a lovely Brisbane backyard, A Cactus Tried To Grow In My Garden is a vividly illustrated, engaging story of a cheeky but resilient little cactus up against a persistent gardener.

Readers will follow the cactus as it tries with all its might, and there may just be a twist in how this fun, little adventure ends.

“I believe that every child has the right to innocence and fun, explored through play and imagination in balance with their other roles in life,” said Penelope.

“In this, my first book, A Cactus Tried To Grow In My Garden, I have attempted to introduce a cheeky and energetic young character to my young audience. I hope that it brings enjoyment and inspiration to many young readers and writers.”

That it does. And in a day and age where children are growing up quicker than ever, this fun new book will help your children maintain the innocence they so deserve.

A Cactus Tried To Grow In My Garden is now available globally.

The Un-Extraordinary Life of Sophie Simpleton

Inspiring new children’s book features un-extraordinary child who surpasses the expectations of her harshest critics

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Introducing Sophie Simpleton. Nearly nine years old, she is the ugly duckling, the cinder-covered Cinderella, and the underdog. Loved by a growing number of eclectic individuals, in the eyes of many, Sophie is un-extraordinary.

Through a series of unfortunate events that occur to those who are her friends, and those who are her enemies, Sophie surprises her critics by rising far above what they considered as un-extraordinary.

THE UN-EXTRAORDINARY LIFE OF SOPHIE SIMPLETON is the brainchild of P.G. James, an Australian author who has successfully published best-selling non-fiction books in the past in the UK and Australia, but deep down, held a secret desire to write fiction, and of late, faith-based fiction for children.

“Drawing from my family’s experiences, the joy of my personal participation in the 1970s, my love for where I live on a mountain, and meshing it with my wild imagination, I have created the complicated, yet adorable Sophie Simpleton,” P.G. James says.

The catalyst for this was that just over five years ago, when he was diagnosed with Lymphoma, which moved to Stage 4. He explains, “I was dying. However, after three sessions of chemo, I was healed in my home of every single trace of the disease. Some would call it a miracle. I should have had 8 sessions, but cancelled those remaining. My haematologist is still scratching her head. That’s a whole other story.”

Firstly, he embarked upon writing adult thrillers. Yet within the past year, he drastically changed direction as a writer, having now published through Ark House Kids THE UN-EXTRAORDINARY LIFE OF SOPHIE SIMPLETON.

As a #faithbasedMiddleGrade fiction series, the sequel SIMPLY SOPHIE SIMPLETON is currently in production, and will be ready to be released in time for Christmas.

“Although these books are written for eight to 12 year olds, both mums and grandma’s who have read them are loving Sophie,” the author explains.

THE UN-EXTRAORDINARY LIFE OF SOPHIE SIMPLETON is set in the early 1970’s, where Sophie Simpleton lives with and loves her animals, both domestic and wild, on her mountain, which overlooks the ocean. In the eyes of many, Sophie is un-extraordinary.

Through a series of unfortunate events that occur to those who are her friends, and those who are her enemies, she surprises her critics by rising far above what they consider as un-extraordinary.

P.G.James emphasises, “I see myself not just as some other author, but rather an artist who lives on a mountain who paints pictures with his carefully-chosen palate of words.”
