FAITH NEWS SERVICE – “Where do babies come from?” Parents often panic when their young children ask about their origins. Unlike older children, curious toddlers are usually looking for simple explanations, not technical details about sex and childbirth, when someone they know is pregnant. It’s important to follow your young child’s lead and respond accordingly. “Wait until your child asks you,” says Robert Walrath, a child psychologist at the Center for Educational and Psychological Assessment in Manchester, New Hampshire.
He adds, “If children are not asking, it’s not important to them.”[1] But if they are asking, Dr. Robin Elise Weiss advises that you “keep your child’s age and maturity level in mind when relaying information about where babies come from.”[2]
