Sheltered With God: New Quarantine Devotional Finds God’s Peace in a World of Fear
FAITH NEWS SERVICE – MUNICH, Bavaria (November 16, 2020) — It seems like every time we turn on the news or check our social media streams, some new, terrible, heartbreaking event is taking place. Our world is changing. It’s angry. It’s scared. Even many longtime believers and faith warriors are battling anxiety and uncertainty. Where is God? Is he even listening?
This is the issue Dr. John I. Snyder tackles in his new prayer devotional, Sheltered With God: Finding God’s Peace in a World of Fear. “This year has been the most challenging in my history, and it has for many others,” Snyder says. “Depression rates are increasing; people are alone and scared. But these are the situations in which we see God working in the most amazing ways we can imagine.”
The devotional starts with a personal story of God transforming one of the most uncertain times in Dr. Snyder’s life into one of the best, setting the book’s motif of God taking the worst things that happen and reversing them for his glory and our good. The book then continues with 14 days of devotions, along with a focused prayer for the day and a Scripture of hope and guidance. The conclusion, A New Day Dawning—Fear Not, is a final reminder that the Source of all of our hope is working for us, not against us, behind the scenes in ways that often surprise us.
Dr. Snyder shows how in these times, as the world has sheltered in place, we have also been sheltered with God. Sheltered shows how through Christ’s power we can face each day without worry, stress, and chaos controlling our lives. With God on our side, we can live boldly, trust completely, and love joyfully.
Sheltered is in part built from Dr. Snyder’s messages from Sunday sessions and a Lockdown Retreat in Bavaria, Germany after the first wave of the German COVID-19 lockdown. “The lockdown has made us value and appreciate worshiping together as the people of God as never before. Even through these troubled times, we know the future is good because God has told us it is. It’s time to shelter with God.”
