5 Stars – A compelling story of determination in the face of overwhelming odds.
Dr. Garry White’s autobiographical story chronicles his 30 plus years of trying to adopt and raise a son within a system prejudiced against single men with a history of emotional issues. Although the book is entitled, “My Quest”, it should have been more accurately titled, “My Struggles”, because he details the numerous obstacles and roadblocks to achieving his lifelong dream. From private adoption organizations to government agencies, Dr. White tells the story of a process mired in never ending home studies, psychological evaluations, and government red-tape with the end result always the same – rejection. While most men might have crumbled under the weight of such adversity, it appears to have strengthened Dr. White’s resolve. As he states in his book, “I will never give up.” As such, it is a testament to his determination against overwhelming odds.
