New Devotional Encourages Caregivers to Find Hope and God’s Presence in the Midst of Mental Illness

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Gilbert, AZ — September 23, 2026 — What if the hardest part of your story is where God meets you gently?

In her new thirty-one-day devotional, Our Hearts and Their Minds: 31 Devotions for Those Caring for Loved Ones with Mental Illness (Redemption Press, 2026), author Kim Cusimano offers caregivers a compassionate, faith-rooted resource for one of life’s most complex journeys. Written from over twenty years of caregiving experience, Cusimano speaks directly to those who feel overwhelmed, unseen, and emotionally stretched.

Blending poetic reflection, Scripture, guided prayer, and personal insight, this devotional creates space for readers to process their experiences honestly while reconnecting with God’s presence. Rather than offering quick solutions, it provides practical, spiritual encouragement and reminds caregivers that they are not alone.

Through each daily entry, readers will
• find comfort in God’s presence during difficult days,
• process complex emotions with honesty and faith,
• experience renewed strength for caregiving responsibilities,
• discover peace not dependent on changing circumstances, and
• be reminded their love is meaningful.

“Caring for someone with mental illness is not a journey meant to be walked alone,” says Cusimano.

Our Hearts & Their Minds is available through Redemption Press, Amazon, and major retailers.

the fatherhood challenge

Widowed Father Turns Personal Tragedy Into Biblical Guide for Dads

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – “The Fatherhood Challenge” calls men beyond passivity with practical guidance for leading their families through adversity and cultural pressure.

Gilbert, AZ – September 21, 2026 — After losing his wife and ten-year-old daughter in a devastating car accident, Mark Strege suddenly faced an unimaginable reality: grieving two people he loved while becoming the sole parent his two young sons desperately needed.

More than two decades later, the ministry leader and father of five draws from that journey in The Fatherhood Challenge: Biblical Fatherhood Through Storms of Adversity and  culture (Redemption Press, 2026), a practical, Scripture-based guide for men who want to lead their families well but are not always sure how.

At a time when many fathers feel overwhelmed by competing cultural messages, past wounds, family pressures, and uncertainty about spiritual leadership, Strege offers a clear framework built around four responsibilities: establishing moral authority, conferring identity, providing emotional security, and affirming a child’s God-given potential.

Rather than presenting an idealized picture of fatherhood, he addresses failure, regret, divorce, blended families, father wounds, and the everyday decisions that shape a family over time.

Strege wrote the book from lived experience rather than theory. He lost his father at age ten and grew up without a father figure during his formative years. Decades later, after the death of his wife and daughter in a car accident, he became a widower and single father to two young sons.

Those experiences, along with remarriage, stepfatherhood, and grandfatherhood, shaped his conviction that fathers do not need to be perfect, but they do need to be present, intentional, and grounded in God’s design.

The Fatherhood Challenge has received endorsements from leaders including Dr. Danny Huerta of Focus on the Family, author and therapist Ron Deal, Man in the Mirror leaders, and Indiana Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith, who describes Strege’s message as a biblical vision for strengthening fathers and families.

Mark Strege’s The Fatherhood Challenge releases in print September 22, 2026. The e-book will be available to download for free on Amazon through September 26, 2026. Early readers are already responding to the book’s message – here’s what a couple of reviewers have said:

Paul T – 5 Stars – A must-read for fathers of all backgrounds and situations
Without stooping to any macho cliche’s, this book was clearly written by a man for men to read. It’s a concise collection of practical advice on how to be an effective father and find joy in doing so. It humorously weaves relatable stories from the author’s own experience with straightforward wisdom needed to master fatherhood at all stages. As a father myself, I find the analogy of fathers being the thermostat in their family very accurate. Definitely worth reading this book!

Andrew M Himelick – 5 Stars – A Challenge Worth Embracing
This is an encouraging and timely book for fathers who desire to lead their families according to God’s design. Using personal stories and biblical examples, the author honestly addresses the challenges fathers face in today’s culture while pointing readers to biblical truth. Fatherhood is both a tremendous responsibility and a great privilege. This book will challenge men will equip themselves with Christ-centered leadership and love.

Motorsports Chaplain Helps Christians Find Purpose in Life’s In-Between Seasons

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Motorsports chaplain Joey Keith draws from nearly two decades of ministry to help believers see waiting not as wasted time, but as preparation for what God may be doing next.

Gilbert, AZ – September 21, 2026 — After nearly two decades ministering within the racing community, motorsports chaplain Joey Keith is bringing lessons learned through his own seasons of waiting, burnout, and renewal to a new forty-day devotional, 40: Anchored in Him: Through a Season of Preparation (Redemption Press, 2026). Written for Christians navigating uncertainty, transition, or an unclear next step, the book explores how seasons that feel stalled may instead become places of spiritual formation and preparation.

For believers who are praying for direction but struggling to understand what God is doing, waiting can easily feel like lost time. Keith challenges that assumption. Through Scripture, prayer, reflection, and weekly opportunities to journal, 40: Anchored in Him helps readers develop steady spiritual rhythms, deepen their trust in God, and learn to move forward without requiring every answer first. Its message is especially relevant during seasons of transition, when pressure to determine “what’s next” can make faithful waiting difficult.

Keith wrote the devotional from lived experience rather than theory. His own journey through preparation, ministry fatigue, and renewal shaped his conviction that God often does significant work before the next assignment becomes clear. Rather than encouraging readers simply to endure the waiting, Keith wants them to recognize what God may be forming within them while they wait.

The forty-day progression mirrors the biblical theme that preparation often precedes calling. Beginning with surrender and repentance, the devotional moves through trust, identity and calling, service, mission, and perseverance, concluding with the challenge to remain ready, rooted, and responsive to God beyond the forty days.

Joey Keith’s 40: Anchored in Him releases in print on September 22, 2026. The e-book will be available to download for free on Amazon through September 26, 2026. Early readers are already responding to the book’s message – here’s what a couple of reviewers have said:

the purpose of health

Christian Physician’s New Book Links Healthy Living to God-Given Purpose

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Preventive and lifestyle medicine physician Dr. Lisa McCoy combines medical science and biblical wisdom to help Christians care for their health with purpose.

Gilbert, AZ – September 16, 2026 — In The Purpose of Health: Maximizing Your Years for Kingdom Impact, board-certified preventive and lifestyle medicine physician and medical epidemiologist Dr. Lisa K. McCoy challenges Christians to rethink why their health matters. Rather than pursuing wellness simply to live longer or feel better, Dr. McCoy presents physical health as a resource that can help believers remain able and available for the work God has called them to do.

For Christians who want to take better care of themselves but struggle to turn information into lasting habits, The Purpose of Health moves beyond another list of diet and exercise rules. Dr. McCoy explores six research-supported pillars of lifestyle medicine; including nutrition, stress management, restorative sleep, healthy relationships, avoiding risky substances, and physical activity, while connecting them with biblical principles and practical application. Her goal is to help readers understand not only what healthier choices look like, but why those choices matter to their purpose, giving them stronger motivation for lasting change.

Dr. McCoy’s passion for preventive medicine grew out of her own turning point as a young physician. Troubled by an approach that often relied on medication to manage chronic disease after it developed, she stepped away from her residency program, sought God’s direction, and eventually found her calling in preventive medicine, public health, and lifestyle medicine. More than thirty years later, that journey has shaped her conviction that caring for the body and pursuing God-given purpose belong together.

Throughout the book, Dr. McCoy pairs accessible explanations of the human body with personal stories, biblical accounts, reflection questions, and actionable next steps designed to help readers make informed health decisions. Her message is ultimately not about achieving perfect health or a certain number of years, but gaining the wisdom and vitality to faithfully complete what God has given each person to do.

The Purpose of Health: Maximizing Your Years for Kingdom Impact is published by Redemption Press and is designed for individual readers, small groups, churches, Christian health ministries, and anyone seeking a faith-based, evidence-informed approach to healthy living.

Dr. Lisa McCoy’s The Purpose of Health releases in print on September 16, 2026. The e-book will be available for $0.99 through September 20, and an audiobook edition is also available. Early readers are already responding to the book’s message – here’s what a couple of reviewers have said:

It helped me understand that caring for my health helped me serve God and fulfill His calling for my life. It taught me to make time for God, patiently listen for His direction, and enjoy the journey along the way. The author beautifully uses history, biblical scripture, and medical knowledge to help readers see the connection between health, faith, and spiritual growth. broken brain

New Memoir Reveals the Hidden Battles Behind Traumatic Brain Injury – Download for Free through September 19, 2026

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – As disability awareness turns toward conditions people cannot see, Shelley Picard shares what recovery really looks like after the visible wounds disappear.

Gilbert, AZ – September 14, 2026 — Writer, playwright, and former travel consultant Shelley Picard never expected one step off a raised platform in Spain to alter the course of her life. In Broken Brain: Recovery and Remapping Life After Brain Trauma (Redemption Press), Picard recounts the traumatic brain injury that followed and the long, often invisible road through cognitive impairment, anxiety, memory loss, physical limitations, and a crisis of faith.

Her story arrives as National Disability Employment Awareness Month brings renewed attention to disabilities that are not always apparent. For Picard, that reality became painfully personal: as bruises faded and she could once again walk and talk, people assumed she was well – even while she continued battling tinnitus, hearing loss, vertigo, short-term memory impairment, sensory changes, anxiety, and cognitive challenges.

Broken Brain moves beyond the medical story to explore what trauma can do to a person’s identity, relationships, work, and faith. Picard writes candidly for survivors who feel misunderstood, caregivers walking beside them, and believers who wonder where God is when healing takes longer than expected. Rather than offering easy answers, her memoir traces a journey from feeling broken and abandoned toward recognizing that pain does not define a person and that spiritual and emotional restoration can unfold even while physical recovery continues.

“My broken brain was not the end of my story. It was the beginning of God’s restoration,” Picard says. “I want people living through trauma, and the people who love them, to know that the battles others cannot see are still real, and they do not have to walk through them alone.”

Shelley Picard’s print copy will be available on September 15, 2026; with the e-book free to download on Amazon for 5 days through September 19, 2026. Early readers are already sharing how much the story has touched them—here’s what a couple of reviewers have said:

Sandra Weaver – The Body of Christ needs “Broken Brain!”
Families of individuals who have sustained a brain injury desperately need this book. For the most part the brain injured person looks exactly the same. However, beneath the surface there are numerous changes that cause struggle hardship and often relational pain for both those with traumatic brain injuries and their families and friends.

5 Stars – When God holds your hand
Imagine being in the beautiful city of Spain with a group of friends and the unthinkable happens…that is where the story begins. Shelly shares with grit and honesty, the story of her injury while in a foreign country, the medical trauma she endures and most importantly the healing as God shows her that he is with her every step of the way… This beautiful story is meant to be read and to be shared; you are invited to walk some of her path and discover the depths of the Father’s love for his children despite the circumstance.

Why Creation Care Matters

Why Creation Care Matters: How One Woman’s Encounter With a Wildflower Sparked a Movement

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – What if the answer to one of Christianity’s most overlooked callings was hiding under a clump of weeds?

That’s the question at the heart of Why Creation Care Matters, a new book by Sally Shaw that traces her remarkable journey from missionary nurse to environmental advocate — and the unexpected moment in her own backyard that changed everything.

Sally’s story begins not in a garden, but in crisis. In 1985, she joined a Christian medical team as a nurse and midwife, caring for Cambodian refugees in a camp in Thailand. Three years later, she moved to Cambodia with World Vision to coordinate mother and child health programs.

It was there she later founded Chrysalis, a local NGO using improvisational drama to help disadvantaged people rediscover their sense of worth — an experience that revealed to her the transformative power of the arts.

In 2007, Sally relocated with her husband and three children to the Adelaide Hills in South Australia, arriving in the middle of a decade-long drought. Watching the land around her home wither, she felt an unexpected pull toward environmental care — something her evangelical upbringing had never emphasized.

Then came the moment that would set her on a new path. While clearing invasive grass from bushland near her home, Sally uncovered a small native plant thriving beneath the tangle: a Prickly Guinea flower, delicate and defiantly alive. In that instant, she felt she received a message — that the destruction surrounding her mirrored the damage done to God’s creation since colonization, and that God had not abandoned it, but was asking for her help.

What followed was not a simple embrace of a new cause, but a deep reckoning. Sally found few allies among fellow evangelicals, many of whom believed that evangelism and care for the poor should take precedence over environmental concern. Rather than rejecting her faith community, she began reexamining scripture, theology, and tradition — eventually concluding, alongside theologian Tom Wright, that Christians are called to be creation’s stewards and “vice-regents,” not merely its temporary residents.

Her convictions were affirmed on the world stage in 2011, when she represented Australia at a Lausanne Movement Creation Care conference in Jamaica, contributing to a global call for “urgent and prophetic ecological responsibility.”

Aware that few people would experience a dramatic “ecological conversion” of their own, Sally turned to what she knew best: the arts. Her Doctor of Ministry research at the Adelaide College of Divinity (completed in 2023) explored whether an arts-based workshop could help evangelical Christians move past ambivalence and into genuine transformation — and the results were striking.

Why Creation Care Matters weaves together Sally’s rigorous research, personal reflection, photography, and poetry — alongside contributions from workshop participants whose own perspectives shifted through the experience. It’s part memoir, part theological exploration, and part invitation: a book for anyone who has ever wondered whether faith and environmental care truly belong together. Why Creation Care Matters, published by Ark House, is now available globally.

About the Author
Sally Shaw holds a Doctor of Ministry from the Adelaide College of Divinity (2023), where her thesis centered on developing and testing an arts-based creation care workshop for evangelical Christians. She continues to lead these workshops across Australia. Learn more at www.theoterra.au.

“Sunday School Just Leveled Up”: New Bible-Based Kids Series Holy Hooligans Launches September 27

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – YouTube series for kids ages 7–12 mixes Scripture, comedy, recurring characters and unexpected Bible stories to help families raise kids who know what they believe — and why.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota — September 4, 2026 — Sunday School is getting a little more rowdy.

Holy Hooligans, a new Bible-based YouTube series created for kids ages 7–12 and their families, will premiere its first full episode on Sunday, September 27.

Hosted by the larger-than-life Joey Buffalo, Holy Hooligans combines biblical teaching with comedy, characters, challenges, memorable catchphrases and some of the stranger — and often overlooked — stories found in Scripture.

The goal is simple: make kids want to open their Bibles.

“Kids can handle a lot more Scripture than we sometimes give them credit for,” said Joey Buffalo, creator and host of Holy Hooligans. “I wanted to make something that was genuinely funny and entertaining, but that never watered down what the Bible actually says. If a kid laughs at something Joey Buffalo does and then goes looking up 1 Kings with their parents afterward, that’s a win.”

The premiere episode, “What Were Those Baal Boys Smoking?”, takes viewers into the showdown between Elijah and the prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18.

Future episodes will explore David and Goliath, Jesus sending demons into a herd of pigs, the Nephilim of Genesis 6, Paul at the Areopagus, Naboth’s vineyard, the gospel itself and other biblical topics rarely tackled in conventional children’s programming.

Each episode combines several recurring elements, including Bible teaching, “Three Truths” kids can remember, Bible Boss trivia, comedy segments, challenges and a closing reminder to:

“Keep chopping wood for Team Jesus.”

The series also features the Holy Hooligans Creed:

We follow Jesus.

We stand on God’s Word.

We speak truth and show love.

We do what’s right — even when it’s hard.

We keep chopping wood for Team Jesus.

While Holy Hooligans is aimed directly at kids, the project was built with parents in mind.

“Parents shouldn’t have to wonder what worldview is hiding underneath something their kids are watching,” Buffalo said. “With Holy Hooligans, I want parents to know exactly where we stand. Jesus is Lord. God’s Word is true. And we can teach those things without making Christian kids’ content boring.”

In addition to full episodes, Holy Hooligans will feature several recurring series, including Faith Faceoff, which helps kids understand how Christianity differs from other worldviews; Campfire Chats, conversations about cultural and biblical topics; and Pilgrim Picks, recommendations for Christian and family-friendly media.

The official Holy Hooligans trailer premiered on September 2, with the first full episode arriving September 27.

New Holy Hooligans content will continue to release regularly on YouTube.
