The Weed of Unforgiveness

New Picture Book Illustrates the Importance of Forgiveness

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – No matter your age, forgiving someone can be difficult. Even when we know it is the right thing to do and that God has instructed us to forgive, many still struggle with it. But studies show forgiveness isn’t done only for the benefit of the one who is being forgiven but that forgiving others can improve health.

In fact, harboring anger toward someone else is linked to higher rates of depression and anxiety.

As explaining forgiveness relies on an abstract concept, it can be a difficult topic to discuss with children. A new picture book, The Weed of Unforgiveness by Vicky J. Wedel (Redemption Press), explains what forgiveness is and shows children what can happen when we refuse to forgive someone.

Told in rhyme, the story follows a little boy named Ben who has an encounter with a neighborhood bully. Hurt, Ben runs to his grandma, Mimi, for comfort and advice. Mimi tells him he should forgive and pray for the other boy. When Ben admits he doesn’t feel ready to forgive him, Mimi warns Ben that unforgiveness is like a weed, and if he isn’t careful, that weed could continue to grow and grow.

When Ben looks at his own actions and sees he has also hurt others, he is able to forgive, and as a result, he feels happier and grows closer to God.

A letter to adult readers is included in the beginning of the book. Vicky Wedel honestly and openly describes some of her own experiences with forgiveness and how her understanding of it has grown over time.

The author says, “I’ve experienced the negative results of holding resentment fed by having an inaccurate view of forgiveness … I want to teach others what God has taught me in hopes they too find the freedom that comes from forgiving freely.”

Unlike many other books that cover this subject, this story also explains what forgiveness is and what it isn’t. Grandma Mimi’s compassion and gently worded wisdom help share this important message with readers of all ages. This relatable message encourages others to soften their hearts and to forgive others as God has forgiven them.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Vicky is a follower of Christ, a wife, a mother, and a friend. She loves children and taught kindergarteners at church for twenty-three years. She also loves writing devotions, poems, and children’s books to share what God has taught her. Her hope is to share His message of love, grace, mercy, and relentlessness so they can work all together, even in the messiness of our lives, for the ultimate good of those who embrace Jesus as our Creator, Sustainer, sovereign Savior, and Lord. She wants readers to know that the Lord alone has the power to change hearts and lives, growing in them a desperate dependence and devotion.

Missions:Together in NYC: ‘From All Nations to All Nations’ Gathering to Unite Churches for Gospel Impact

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Missions:Together NYC: From All Nations to All Nations: Being Part of the Solution
November 8, 2025 | 59 Cooper Square, New York City
missionstogethernyc.com

There’s an intolerable problem: over 2 billion people without access to the gospel. But there’s also a God-given solution: the Church, empowered by the Spirit, proclaiming the gospel to the nations.

On November 8, believers, churches and mission agencies from across New York City will gather for Missions:Together NYC, a half-day event designed to equip, fuel, and unite the Church for global gospel witness. Hosted at Cornerstone Church (59 Cooper Square, East Village), this gathering will feature compelling speakers, powerful worship and stories of how God is at work from Brooklyn to the ends of the earth.

The event follows a Nov. 1 Expo in Apex, North Carolina.

Through main sessions, breakout conversations, and opportunities to connect, participants will explore what it looks like to bring a missions revival to one of the most globally connected cities on earth, and to grow in spiritual maturity, discover their calling, and take their place in the Great Commission.

The program includes:

  • Main sessions that challenge and inspire participants to grow in maturity and obedience to Christ’s mission.
  • Breakout sessions designed to help churches develop practical strategies for sending, supporting, and sustaining missionaries.
  • Networking for ministries and agencies to connect for meaningful partnerships.

“New York represents the nations at our doorstep,” said Carl Dobrowolski, Missions:Together’s Advancement Lead. “This event is about being part of God’s solution, equipping and sending witnesses from all nations to all nations.”

“We believe God is stirring something here,” added Mark Knetsch, M:T Visionary Lead. “We want to see churches grow deep in discipleship and bold in mission, right here in the city and to the ends of the earth.”

Rooted in Acts 1:8-9, M:T NYC centers on Jesus’ final instructions: to wait for the Holy Spirit’s power and then be His witnesses from our own neighborhoods to the ends of the earth. Few cities embody that global calling more than New York City, already a gathering of nations and a launching point for gospel witness to the world.

Join us to worship, pray, learn, and plan together. Come be encouraged, excited, and equipped to know your place in God’s mission, and to grow in your gifting alongside others who are just as passionate as you are.

A free lunch will be provided.

New Book Calls Christians to Wake Up to the Real War: Recognize the Enemy and Stand Firm in Victory – Download for Free Tomorrow

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Gilbert, Arizona – Monday, October 27, 2025

In a world filled with confusion, compromise, and spiritual deception, award-winning publisher and author Athena Dean Holtz sounds the alarm with her powerful new release, “No Longer Hidden: You Cannot Resist What You Do Not Recognize” (Redemption Press, 2025).

Originally written by Vietnam veteran Chuck Dean and released in 1997 as Behind Enemy Lines, this newly expanded edition has been completely revised and updated by Holtz—drawing from her own story of deep church hurt, spiritual abuse, and redemption. Through hard-won wisdom and biblical truth, she equips readers to recognize how the enemy operates, shut the doors he exploits, and stand firm in the truth of God’s Word.

“We cannot resist what we do not recognize,” writes Holtz. “Once your eyes are open, everything changes.”

Drawing from her own story of surviving 13 years of spiritual abuse and loss, Holtz’s voice is both seasoned and compassionate. Each chapter offers biblical teaching, reflection questions, and “warfare watch” insights—helping believers recognize the enemy’s tactics, close the doors he exploits, and walk in lasting freedom.

Readers will learn to:
• Recognize the difference between spiritual warfare and ordinary hardship
• Expose deception and counterfeits hiding behind “Christian” language
• Break free from lies about identity, shame, and unhealed wounds
• Armor up daily with practical, biblical strategies for victory
• Stand firm in a culture of fear, distraction, and spiritual confusion

Endorsed by Christian leaders, authors, and ministry founders, “No Longer Hidden” has been hailed as both a wake-up call and a battle plan for today’s Church.

“This book is not just a teaching—it’s a lifeline for the weary warrior,” says Hanna Green, author of Small Talk. BIG GOSPEL. “Athena writes with hard-won wisdom and hope. It’s essential reading for any believer serious about standing firm.”

Athena Dean Holtz’s paperback will be available on October 28, 2025; with the e-book free to download on Amazon for 5 days through November 1, 2025. “No Longer Hidden” debuted to rave reviews! Here’s what just a couple of the reviewers have said:

A Life Woven in Love

Dare to Reimagine Discipleship Through the Lens of Love in ‘A Life Woven in Love’

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – In a world where faith can sometimes feel fractured, rigid, or reduced to formulas, author and Faith and Life Coach, Jacqueline East, offers a refreshing and deeply hopeful vision of Christianity. Her new book, A Life Woven in Love, is an invitation to rediscover discipleship through the radical, transformative love of Jesus.

More than a theological exploration, this book is a personal journey—one that speaks to anyone who has ever felt disillusioned by religion, wounded by spiritual trauma, or simply longing for a deeper, more authentic expression of faith.

A Message Born from Love and Experience

The inspiration for A Life Woven in Love came during the wedding of Jacqueline’s pastor and his bride, sparking reflections on the biblical metaphor of Jesus as the bridegroom and the church as his bride. What began as a teaching series soon grew into a larger vision: a message of hope for those alienated by church, and a practical guide for building communities of love, healing, and restoration.

Raised on the windswept plains of Patagonia as a missionary kid, Jacqueline’s story spans decades of faith, heartbreak, and transformation. Her experiences of chronic illness, divorce, and recovery from a serious accident have given her a unique perspective—one rooted not just in theory, but in the messy reality of life. Through it all, she has held fast to her faith, allowing God’s love to weave resilience, compassion, and authenticity into her life.

A Blanket Woven with Love

The central metaphor of the book—a woven blanket—beautifully illustrates the gift of love Jesus extends to each of us. Just as a blanket offers warmth and protection, love surrounds and sustains us, even when life feels muddy and complicated. Jacqueline invites readers to see discipleship not as a rigid checklist, but as a living tapestry of love for God, love for others, and love for ourselves.

Each chapter thoughtfully blends scripture, storytelling, and metaphor to create an accessible, engaging, and transformative read. Longtime Christians will find fresh insights, while those new or returning to faith will discover a safe and welcoming guide.

A Voice of Authenticity

What sets Jacqueline apart is her heartfelt authenticity. She doesn’t write from a pedestal of perfection, but from the ground of lived experience. Her words carry both tenderness and courage, offering readers the reassurance that stumbling and struggling are part of the journey—and that love is always strong enough to bring healing and hope.

Jacqueline is no stranger to writing. She has previously authored three personal development books, including The Leader’s Roll and ReCompass Your Imagination. Yet A Life Woven in Love stands out as her most personal and profound work to date, bridging her background in coaching with her lifelong passion for discipleship.

A Book for the Wounded and the Weary

At its heart, A Life Woven in Love is more than just a book—it’s a lifeline. For churches, it offers a roadmap to creating communities that welcome the broken and marginalized. For individuals, it’s a companion that gently whispers: you are loved, you are seen, and you can begin again.

Whether you are a devoted believer, a questioning seeker, or someone who has felt pushed away by religion, Jacqueline’s message is clear: love is still the most powerful force in the world, and it can reimagine discipleship for a new generation.

Discover the Courage to Believe Again

A Life Woven in Love invites you to step into a journey of healing, authenticity, and radical love. Because when love leads, healing follows—and in that healing, faith is renewed. Published by Ark House, it is now available globally.

sanctity

New Release ‘Sanctity’ Looks at Three Extraordinary Women, One Christ and Timeless Courage

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Throughout history, we’ve honoured warriors, heroes and saints – those who inspire us by their courage, convictions, and sacrifice. Sanctity brings a unique lens: it explores the lives of three extraordinary women whose greatest acts of bravery were their unwavering obedience and resolute faith in Jesus Christ, even in the face of catastrophe and death.

In this moving and carefully researched new book, historian and educator Lachlan Mason furnishes dynamic portraits of Mary Magdalene, Joan of Arc, and Sophie Scholl – women separated by millennia and centuries, yet united in one unshakeable loyalty: their devotion to Jesus.

‘They are not here to shame or condemn us,’ the author writes, ‘but to encourage us.’

More than only saints or symbols, these compelling women are presented in Sanctity as vivid,  complex, relatable, and profoundly human. Their choices foreground what it looks like to follow Christ when the stakes are lethally high – and their stories illuminate how Jesus relates personally, individually, and consistently across time and circumstance.

A Lifelong Love Becomes a lifelong Work.

The seeds of Sanctity were planted early. As a young boy, Lachlan was captivated by Joan of Arc – not just as an historical figure, but as an exemplar of valour and faith. Mary Magdalene inspired his adolescent admiration with her fearless devotion, expanding beyond Easter morning into a closer narrative of suffering and steadfast love. In Sophie Scholl, he encountered a modern peer, aflame with courage, and whose questions and convictions still echo today.

After years of study and reflection, the three women are drawn together in one unifying and engaging volume of ‘spiritual history’ – a genre that respects academic integrity while introducing the devotional richness of Christian witness.

History With Heart and Purpose.

A history teacher by vocation, Lachlan knows how transforming true stories can be – especially when told with emotional honesty and intellectual conviction. The book blends historical investigation with spiritual insight, examining sources with care, particularly where evidence is sparse, most notably with Mary Magdalene, and to a degree with Joan of Arc. Sophie Scholl, a more recent figure, exemplifies how faith is alive, consisting not only in stained glass or legends, but in daily and ordinary classrooms, conversations, and choices.

The result is a realistically personal, historically grounded meditation on what it means to follow Jesus when doing so costs everything – Joan and Sophie were martyrs.

Why Read Sanctity?

Readers of Sanctity will walk away with different impressions – some with historical fact and detail that bring ancient stories to life; others may find spiritual awakening, comfort, or challenge. But all will meet three real women whose love for Jesus shaped their lives, decisions and destinies.

Whether you’re a seeker, a seasoned believer, or someone who values faith-filled history, Sanctity offers a mirror for your soul, and compass for your journey. Through Mary, Jehanne (Joan), and Sophie, the author’s hope and prayer is that you will see Jesus – the Christ – not as a remote statue or a ritualised force, but as they knew Him – the living, breathing, transforming, eternal Son of God: Jesus, the Way the Truth, and the Life.

‘This is not just their stories,’ the author says, ’it’s Jesus’ story – seen through the historical lives of three faithful disciples, women who followed Him all the way into the fire, and through it.

gratitude attack

New Book Unleashes “Gratitude Attack” to Transform Everyday Life with Unforced Joy

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Gilbert, Arizona – Monday, October 6, 2025

Wendy Bower’s “Gratitude Attack” will be available tomorrow, October 7, 2025 and ebook free to download for five days through October 11, 2025

What if gratitude isn’t something you strive to achieve—but something that flows freely when you rest in God’s love? In her new book, Gratitude Attack (Redemption Press, 2025), author Wendy Bower reveals how cultivating a deeper connection with God unlocks a life of uncontained thanks, hope, and joy—even in the most ordinary or challenging seasons.

With her trademark blend of humor, warmth, and biblical wisdom, Bower dismantles the pressure to “perform gratitude” and instead points readers toward the simplicity of enjoying God. Each chapter provides perspective-shifting insights that help readers:

  • Break free from a transactional relationship with God.
  • Experience His love as the source of unforced, overflowing gratitude.
  • Discover hope and joy without striving or obligation.
  • Build gratitude-momentum in daily life—even in the mundane.

Drawing from her own story and Scripture, Bower assures readers they don’t need special techniques or extra discipline to cultivate thanks. Instead, they are invited into the same authentic, joy-filled gratitude she’s discovered through a life rooted in God’s loving presence.

“Gratitude isn’t about trying harder,” says Bower. “It’s about experiencing God’s love so deeply that thanksgiving becomes our natural response.”

“Gratitude Attack” is a refreshing invitation to shed obligation-driven faith and embrace a gratitude-infused life that transforms how we see God, ourselves, and our everyday world.

Wendy Bower’s paperback will be available on October 7, 2025; with the e-book free to download on Amazon for 5 days through October 11, 2025. “Gratitude Attack” debuted to rave reviews! Here’s what just a couple of the reviewers have said:

Everything and Everybody Belong Somewhere

New Children’s Book Celebrates Friendship, Belonging, and the Beauty of Being Different

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – On the first day of school, Theo, a thoughtful Australian boy who sees the world through an autistic lens, packs his bag with familiar comforts: dinosaur toys, collector cards, creamy custard, and strawberry milk. With his imaginary friend Mike by his side, Theo braces for a day full of unfamiliar sounds and faces.

Nearby stands Fedir, a red-haired Ukrainian boy who has recently arrived in Australia. Anxious and alone, Fedir is adjusting to life far from the home he once knew. When Theo notices Fedir standing by himself, everything begins to change. Their quiet connection—through dinosaur facts, shared snacks, and gentle understanding—builds an unlikely friendship that blossoms in the most unexpected way.

Together, they show that every child deserves to feel safe, accepted, and seen.

Everything and Everybody Belong Somewhere is more than a story—it’s a message of hope for children navigating the complexities of starting school, especially those with autism or from refugee backgrounds.

Written and illustrated by Tony Braithwaite, this beautifully sensitive picture book is inspired by Tony’s real-life journey with his autistic grandson, who also experiences sensory processing disorder and restrictive eating. It’s a heartfelt reflection of the challenges—and joys—of finding connection in unfamiliar spaces.

Themes Explored in the Book:

  • Autism and developmental differences
  • Friendship and social connection
  • Refugee experiences and resettlement
  • Identity, multiculturalism, and belonging
  • Emotional resilience and empathy
  • Self-esteem and acceptance

Tony also includes a practical and compassionate guide for parents, carers, and educators with tips on supporting autistic children in early learning environments.

A Book for All Children
Through simple, child-friendly hand-drawn illustrations and a framed picture story style, this book gently opens up conversations about neurodiversity, kindness, and the power of friendship across cultures.

Whether you’re a parent, teacher, therapist, or simply someone who believes in the importance of inclusive storytelling, this book will help you to understand autism. Published by Ark House Kids, Everything and Everybody Belong Somewhere, now available globally, is a book that will stay with you—and the children you read it with—for years to come.

Vocabulous US Brings Gamified Learning to the Religious Education Market

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Boynton Beach, FL (October 1, 2025) – Vocabulous US, creator of the popular Word of the Day app, is expanding its mission of making vocabulary learning engaging and accessible with the launch of Biblegram, an uplifting app that combines Scripture discovery with interactive puzzle play.

While educational gaming has transformed secular learning, faith-based education has seen fewer innovations in interactive study tools. Recognizing the linguistic richness of the Bible, the company applied its proven vocabulary learning methodology to Scripture to create a uniquely engaging resource.

Solving the app’s cryptogram puzzles reveals Bible verses, deepening spiritual connection and sharpening the mind through gentle brain training. Optional devotionals and journaling prompts follow each puzzle, offering further opportunities for reflection and spiritual enrichment.

The launch is part of Vocabulous US’s broader effort to bring educational gaming principles to a broad range of learning contexts.
