His Name Is John Whitman

When Faith Meets Wall Street: A Homeless Man’s Belief Changes Everything

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – United States—Monday, May 26, 2025

Can One Man’s Faith Save Another’s Soul? New Christian Novel “His Name Is John Whitman: A Life Shared” Explores Grace, Grit, and the Power of an Unlikely Friendship

In the heart of one of the world’s wealthiest cities, a homeless man with unshakable faith meets a high-powered executive with everything money can buy—except peace. “His Name Is John Whitman,” the new novel by Michael Dunn, offers a powerful and timely parable about transformation, purpose, and the unexpected ways God reaches us.

Set against the backdrop of modern-day New York City, “His Name Is John Whitman” follows Allen Dunn, a cynical and success-driven businessman whose carefully constructed life is interrupted by a chance encounter with John Whitman, a homeless man with an extraordinary trust in God. What begins as an uncomfortable moment on the street quickly unfolds into a soul-stirring journey neither man expected.

As Allen finds himself drawn deeper into John’s world, his own begins to unravel. In the tension between Wall Street ambition and sidewalk faith, Allen is forced to examine the emptiness of his wealth, the wounds he’s long buried, and the God he’s never truly known.

“Michael Dunn’s novel is more than a compelling read—it’s a wake-up call to the spiritual poverty hidden behind success,” says readers across early review platforms. “It reminds us that the gospel isn’t always preached from a pulpit. Sometimes, it’s lived out on the sidewalk.”

With themes of redemption, evangelism, and the power of divine appointments, “His Name Is John Whitman” is a gripping narrative that shows how God often uses the least expected people to carry out His greatest work.

Michael Dunn’s paperback will be available on Tuesday, May 27; with the e-book free to download on Amazon for 5 days, Tuesday, May 27 through May 31, 2025. “His Name Is John Whitman” debuted to rave reviews! Here’s what just a couple of the reviewers have said:

New Devotional Offers Lifeline to Parents of Wounded Children During Mental Health Awareness Month

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – “Praying for a Wounded Child: Encouragement and Prayers for You and the Child You Love” by Virginia Wells Provides Spirit-Led Encouragement and Hope for Families Facing Emotional and Behavioral Challenges.

United States—Monday, May 19, 2025—Just in time for Mental Health Awareness Month, a powerful new resource is offering comfort, courage, and Christ-centered guidance to parents navigating the often lonely and overwhelming road of raising emotionally wounded children. “Praying for a Wounded Child” releases this month with a timely message for struggling families and caregivers.

Born from Virginia Wells’s own raw and redemptive parenting journey—including the challenges of raising children from hard places—this devotional is both practical and deeply spiritual. With a master’s degree in mental health counseling and significant experience working with traumatized children, Wells uniquely understands the profound heartbreak and hope that coexist in these parenting situations.

This book serves as both a soul cry and a battle plan, written for the parent whose heart breaks daily—who feels unseen, unprepared, or out of strength, yet still refuses to give up. Wells speaks directly to those walking a difficult parenting path, offering the encouragement and tools they need to keep going when hope feels distant.

Each devotional entry invites readers into honest reflection, scriptural truth, and targeted prayer over some of the most difficult issues wounded children face, including:

  • Attachment trauma and abandonment
  • Abuse and incarceration
  • Identity, education, and forgiveness
  • Extended family dynamics and prejudice
  • Self-care for caregivers
  • And so much more

Wells doesn’t just offer empathy—she equips parents with spiritual and emotional tools to help them stand in the gap for their children, while also tending to their own healing and hope.

This release couldn’t be more timely. With mental health concerns among children and adolescents at an all-time high, families desperately need resources that meet both emotional and spiritual needs. “Praying for a Wounded Child” is not just a devotional—it’s a lifeline.

Virginia Wells’s paperback will be available on Tuesday, May 20; with the e-book free to download on Amazon for 5 days, Tuesday, May 20 through May 24, 2025. “Praying for a Wounded Child” is making a powerful impact, resonating deeply with parents, counselors, and ministry leaders alike. Among its early champions is Jodie Berndt, bestselling author of “Praying the Scriptures for Your Children,” who says:

“Virginia Wells writes with the wisdom of a therapist, the tenderness of a chaplain, and the gut-level understanding of someone who has “been there” with trauma and the wounds that it leaves. Featuring real-life stories, thoughtful questions, and helpful prayers drawn from the pages of Scripture, Praying for a Wounded Child is a powerful and trustworthy companion for those of us who need to know what to do—and how to pray—for the hurting people we love.”

Endorsements like Berndt’s reflect what many readers are saying—this book is more than a devotional; it’s a much-needed companion for the weary-hearted.

Here’s what just a couple of reviewers have shared:

Dan Hauer
5 Stars Nothing too hard for the LORD!
An anointed blend of touching real-life experiences, contextual insights, inspiring scriptures, and intercessory prayers recommended to guide and encourage those seeking Divine intervention on behalf of children wounded by life’s circumstances. I highly commend author Wells for her outstanding work!

Melody M.
5 Stars Encouragement to get you through tough times
Praying For A Wounded Child was not written relying on scholarly research alone. It is a work wrought in the depths of human experience, riding the roller coaster ups-and-downs that only “doing life” in the throes of addiction and emotional trauma can produce. It rises above the telling of a story to the heights of spiritual awareness, confession, dependence, and utter reliance on our faith in God when our human eyes cannot see the path to a positive conclusion. Virginia shares this personal journey in a compelling way that will bring enlightenment and encouragement to others who walk a similar road, perhaps at a time when they need it the most. God Sent a Yankee

Judith Richards’ God Sent a Yankee Explores Forbidden Love, Family Loyalty, and Faith Amidst the Chaos of War

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – United States—Monday, May 12, 2025

Judith Richards’ “God Sent a Yankee” releases May 13, 2025 and the ebook is free to download for five days through May 17, 2025.

What happens when love crosses enemy lines in a time of war? That’s the question at the heart of “God Sent a Yankee,” the gripping new historical romance from acclaimed author Judith Richards, now available wherever books are sold.

Set against the vivid backdrop of the 1863 Battle of Buzzard’s Prairie in war-torn Louisiana, “God Sent a Yankee” tells the unforgettable story of Coraline Chretien, a fiery Southern belle whose life is upended when her family’s plantation is overrun by Union forces—and her heart is unexpectedly drawn to a kindhearted Yankee major.

When Major William Kelly and Cora first meet, sparks fly—but not the romantic kind. As opposing loyalties and deeply rooted family expectations clash, Cora must wrestle with her convictions, her faith, and her growing affection for the very man she was raised to despise.

With the fate of her ancestral home hanging in the balance, a buried treasure rumored to lie somewhere on the plantation becomes a desperate hope. As Cora and Will navigate the dangerous terrain of war, pride, and prejudice, they’ll need more than love to overcome the obstacles in their path—they’ll need divine intervention.

Richards brings to life a lesser-known Civil War setting with cinematic detail and emotional depth, offering readers a rare glimpse into both the personal and spiritual conflicts of the era. “God Sent a Yankee” is a powerful tale of forbidden love, courage in the face of uncertainty, and the quiet, persistent pull of God’s providence.

Perfect for fans of historical fiction, Southern settings, and redemptive love stories, “God Sent a Yankee” is an inspiring and page-turning read that reminds us that sometimes the greatest battles are fought in the heart.

Judith Richard’s “God Sent a Yankee” paperback will be available on Tuesday, May 13; with the e-book free to download on Amazon for 5 days, Tuesday, May 13 through May 17, 2025.

Mr Wise and Mr Sandford and the Terrible Storm

New book aims to help children get a grasp on Biblical principles

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – In a world where less and less children grow up with knowledge of the Bible, Australian author Di Hansen has written a powerful book to help change the narrative.

In Mr Wise and Mr Sandford and the Terrible Storm, Di, an Australian author based in Tasmania, re-creates the wonderful story of ‘The Wise and Foolish Builders’ that Jesus told in the Gospels, and specifically Matthew Chapter 7. While we all face trials and struggles, these can be a picture of life’s storms. Building our lives on Jesus’ words gives us a foundation that will uphold us in the midst of any hardship we may face.

That is a message that Di wants children to know, especially as the storms of life are inevitable for all of us. And when those storms hit, which they will, Di wants children to know that there is a solid rock on which they can stand.

Mr Wise and Mr Sandford and the Terrible Storm is a fun story depicting two characters. Both are wanting to build their dream homes on a sunny coastal inlet. Both choose the foundation on which they will build and the companies they wish to build their homes. When a big storm suddenly hits, we see how wise their choices are.

One house stands another comes crashing down.

“I was inspired to write this book because children grasp readily biblical principles that are in illustrated story form,” Di states.

A mother of three sons and wife to her husband, Peter, Di was not brought up in a Christian home. She first learnt about Jesus in a Catholic primary school she attended, before becoming a born-again Christian as a teenager.

“I was brought up by my Dad so it was not a conventional family unit, especially for that time period,” she said. “I attended YWAM as a young adult and went on to study at the University of Hawaii in my early twenties. I achieved my nursing diploma and still work as a community nurse today.”

This is Di’s second book. Her first children’s book, The Wide Road, is also based on another Gospel story in Matthew 7: the Narrow Way.

In Mr Wise and Mr Sandford and the Terrible Storm, the seaside illustrations are fun and colourful, and the story culminates with a dramatic rescue at sea for one of the characters. Great for Sunday school lessons, or a bedtime story with great talking points and opportunities for discussion, this book will help children learn from a young age that there is safety when they are under the covering of their Creator.

Mr Wise and Mr Sandford and the Terrible Storm, published by Ark House, is now available globally.

the long road home

New Release Teaches Gratitude Using an Unlikely Source – Chickens

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Introducing children to faith can be started early, as one study found that religious beliefs begin taking shape in children as young as two years of age. Young children learn by observing modeled behavior and through various forms of media, including picture books.

Author Dawn Okerlund, mother of seven, grandmother of fifteen, and foster mother to many others, knows the importance of books that foster a healthy faith-based outlook. But it was inspiration from four chickens that unexpectedly joined her family that led the debut author to write The Long Road Home (Redemption Press), a picture book for children ages five to eight.

In The Long Road Home, a little flock of chickens are turned away from their home and scurry to find a new place to live before the cold weather becomes treacherous. Subtly woven into the story are elements of faith on display: prayer, belief that God is looking out for them, and trust in God and his plans. While chickens might seem like an unlikely source when it comes to learning to depend on God, Okerlund advises taking the time “to listen and learn from others, even our pets and animals. and then pray and trust God.”

Based on real-life events, the chickens’ distinct personalities add humor and entertainment to every page. With their positive and grateful outlooks, they teach us about faith and that home is more about who we share it with than a specific location.

Okerlund says her desire for the book is for readers to know that “Prayer is the key between us and God, and God answers prayers.” Included is a “chicken glossary” with related definitions and vocabulary words.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dawn was first inspired to write a story her grandchildren would be able to enjoy after four very special chickens entered their lives. Mother of seven and Mimi of fifteen, she babysat and was a foster mom to many. She was also a nursery worker, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader for her church. She always enjoyed reading stories to her children and now enjoys reading to her grandchildren. The Long Road Home is her debut book.
