The Un-Extraordinary Life of Sophie Simpleton

Inspiring new children’s book features un-extraordinary child who surpasses the expectations of her harshest critics

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Introducing Sophie Simpleton. Nearly nine years old, she is the ugly duckling, the cinder-covered Cinderella, and the underdog. Loved by a growing number of eclectic individuals, in the eyes of many, Sophie is un-extraordinary.

Through a series of unfortunate events that occur to those who are her friends, and those who are her enemies, Sophie surprises her critics by rising far above what they considered as un-extraordinary.

THE UN-EXTRAORDINARY LIFE OF SOPHIE SIMPLETON is the brainchild of P.G. James, an Australian author who has successfully published best-selling non-fiction books in the past in the UK and Australia, but deep down, held a secret desire to write fiction, and of late, faith-based fiction for children.

“Drawing from my family’s experiences, the joy of my personal participation in the 1970s, my love for where I live on a mountain, and meshing it with my wild imagination, I have created the complicated, yet adorable Sophie Simpleton,” P.G. James says.

The catalyst for this was that just over five years ago, when he was diagnosed with Lymphoma, which moved to Stage 4. He explains, “I was dying. However, after three sessions of chemo, I was healed in my home of every single trace of the disease. Some would call it a miracle. I should have had 8 sessions, but cancelled those remaining. My haematologist is still scratching her head. That’s a whole other story.”

Firstly, he embarked upon writing adult thrillers. Yet within the past year, he drastically changed direction as a writer, having now published through Ark House Kids THE UN-EXTRAORDINARY LIFE OF SOPHIE SIMPLETON.

As a #faithbasedMiddleGrade fiction series, the sequel SIMPLY SOPHIE SIMPLETON is currently in production, and will be ready to be released in time for Christmas.

“Although these books are written for eight to 12 year olds, both mums and grandma’s who have read them are loving Sophie,” the author explains.

THE UN-EXTRAORDINARY LIFE OF SOPHIE SIMPLETON is set in the early 1970’s, where Sophie Simpleton lives with and loves her animals, both domestic and wild, on her mountain, which overlooks the ocean. In the eyes of many, Sophie is un-extraordinary.

Through a series of unfortunate events that occur to those who are her friends, and those who are her enemies, she surprises her critics by rising far above what they consider as un-extraordinary.

P.G.James emphasises, “I see myself not just as some other author, but rather an artist who lives on a mountain who paints pictures with his carefully-chosen palate of words.”

Missionary Jonathan Brenneman Shares How Believers Can Walk in an Abundant Supernatural Lifestyle

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Jonathan Brenneman encourages the body of Christ to move into a new realm of God’s power, miracles, and revival. Believers can understand the dynamics of God’s power and increase their capacity to carry God’s manifest presence.

In The Mechanics of Miracles, Jonathan Brenneman shares nearly one hundred supernatural testimonies, numerous Scriptures, helpful metaphors, and a detailed study of how God’s invisible Spirit manifests tangibly among his children. (ISBN-13: 979-8329117837 )

Jonathan Brenneman says, “I heard God shout, ‘I have a new normal for the church! It should have been normal all along.’ It is a normal in which the church does the works of Jesus.”

After years of powerlessness in prayer, Jonathan Brenneman’s thinking changed radically. In nearly twenty years, he has experienced miracles thousands of times. Many Christians believe these are mysterious superpowers or spiritual gifts. Others think miracles happen occasionally if God chooses to move. Jonathan views these supernatural events simply as manifestations of Jesus’s Spirit released through a believer’s words and actions.

The Holy Spirit manifests God’s invisible nature in tangible power through our communion with him. This happens by certain dynamics, The Mechanics of Miracles. Paul wrote that he didn’t want the Corinthians to be ignorant about spiritual matters. Many fail to experience heaven’s abundance due to ignorance. But when we understand how to partner with the Holy Spirit, we can see God’s love and compassion manifest in power through our lives.

“Whether you’ve never seen Jesus heal someone through your hands or you’ve been ministering healing and deliverance for years, I want you to experience these miracles beyond what you’ve ever imagined!”

At the age of nine, Jonathan Brenneman experienced a miraculous healing that convinced him of God’s existence. As a teenager, he dedicated his life to missions, went on his first mission trip, and began learning languages. He has traveled across the US, Canada, Europe, and Latin America, praying for thousands of people of all ages.

A radical shift in his thinking launched him into an abundant life of God’s supernatural power when he was twenty. He has written eleven books on Christian living. He moved to Brazil in 2012 and is currently a missionary in Goiânia with his wife and daughters.

New Release Details Surviving Control and Abuse of a Schizophrenic Husband

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – “The lifetime emotional, social, and financial consequences experienced by individuals with schizophrenia have significant effects on their families. Family responses to having a family member with schizophrenia include: care burden, fear and embarrassment about illness signs and symptoms, uncertainty about course of the disease, lack of social support, and stigma,”[1] says Noreen Brady, PhD, RN, CNS, LPCC.

Georgia Morris began to experience these effects firsthand when her husband began exhibiting unusual symptoms of behavior on their honeymoon. In a new release, Unfailing Love: Freedom from Abuse, Shame, and Control of a Schizophrenic Spouse (Redemption Press), Morris shares how he controlled every aspect of her life, cut her off from her family and friends, and didn’t allow her to finish her last quarter of university or even play and sing at her beloved piano.

Her coping mechanism became a total dependence on God as the mental and physical abuse escalated and her husband was diagnosed with manic depression at first, then schizophrenia, and was often hospitalized.

When times were at their worst during those seven years and she feared for her safety and their two young sons, she learned to battle with prayer and worship. She says continually practicing forgiveness set her free and gave her a song in her heart. Morris comments, “We don’t need to remain victims of our circumstances but can learn from them and flourish in freedom and faith instead.”

In Unfailing Love, Morris shares hard-won truths of her dependence on God to fight her battles.

Those who have family members or friends suffering with mental illness or going through trying times in a family relationship will be encouraged by this memoir of a woman who learned that God was faithful to carry her through.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Georgia Morris has a BA from Eastern Washington State University and an MA in education from Whitworth University. She has taught in both Christian and public schools, primarily as a K–12 music specialist and choral director, while also giving private voice and piano lessons. She and her now husband, Wes, have been married thirty-four years and enjoy traveling, walking, cooking, music, involvement with friends and church, and spending time with family. The couple has four adult children, two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, and seven grandkids, and reside in the Seattle, Washington area.

helpless earth reckless science

New environmental study attacks global norms of scientific progress

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – New environmental study attacks global norms of scientific progress.

For Immediate Release
Haifa, 12 August 2024.

Helpless Earth: Reckless Science, by Yuval Kanev, sharply criticizes major assumptions, policies, and visions of leading scientific programs in the past three centuries.

This revisionist work covers key threats to humanity posed by prominent developments in science and technology since the rise of the Industrial Revolution.

The comprehensive investigation scrutinizes scores of neglected issues surrounding cherished scientific advance irrespective of increasing global hazards.

Officially published earlier this year, the 270-page book highlights the sobering reality of key historical breakthroughs that currently endanger global safety based on the Doomsday Clock project.

Given the lopsided pros and cons of modern scientific achievements, this volume censures uncompromising scientific establishments for factually risking humanity, downplaying their accountability, overlooking their principal challengers, and cultivating their public image.

Referring to the strange lack of appropriate government attention, Kanev says:

“Our celebrated democratic institutions tackle the issue of hazardous science with a deafening silence. There is no such issue!”

The book, supported by a lengthy list of scholarly sources and dozens of graphical demonstrations, is the latest addition to the author’s growing repertoire and continues with his unique form of critique against expert elites.

“Helpless Earth: Reckless Science” in ebook, paperback, and hardcover format is offered in Amazon store here:

The Revolt of the Palestinian Jews

The Revolt of the Palestinian Jews: How the Netanyahu Government Invited the October 7 Massacre

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Just released by Wipf & Stock Publishers

orders@wipfandstock.com

Anthony Cardinale’s new book describes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reckless campaign to enhance the rights of Palestinian Jews at the expense of Palestinian Arabs. “Bibi” – on trial for corruption – could return to office in late 2022 only by aligning with rabid far-right religious parties that were intent on driving Palestinian Arabs out of the so-called “occupied territories.”

Hoping to get the Knesset to legalize the crimes for which he was on trial, Bibi proposed a “judicial reform” plan to neuter the power of the Supreme Court to annul such a law. Soon thousands of Israelis were demonstrating for and against the reform – even coming to blows – prompting President Isaac Herzog to warn of impending civil war.

Seeing Israelis bitterly divided, Hamas exploited this weakness with a surprise all-out attack on October 7, 2023. Israel is still fighting back. But will the tens of thousands of civilian casualties in Gaza someday prompt the nations to attack Israel, as prophesied in the Bible?

While Netanyahu exploited divisions in Israeli society, increasing the ungodly polarization, this book predicts that God will employ a godly polarization between religious and secular Jews, forcing them to take a stand in the coming final days.

Anthony Cardinale is a Christian Zionist with Jewish bloodlines. This is his fourth book exploring the destiny of Israel and the Jewish people in the coming final days. During his years with the Buffalo News, he won three dozen journalism awards and was nominated three times for a Pulitzer Prize.

Cardinale researched his first book, The Red Heifer: A Jewish Cry for Messiah, during a residency he was granted in 1998 at Mishkenot Sha’ananim, Jerusalem’s guest house, with its iconic windmill, for visiting writers and artists. Themes from that book have been expanded here in light of the war in Gaza.

New Picture Book Helps Children Understand How They Developed Before Birth

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – “Where do babies come from?” Parents often panic when their young children ask about their origins. Unlike older children, curious toddlers are usually looking for simple explanations, not technical details about sex and childbirth, when someone they know is pregnant. It’s important to follow your young child’s lead and respond accordingly. “Wait until your child asks you,” says Robert Walrath, a child psychologist at the Center for Educational and Psychological Assessment in Manchester, New Hampshire.

He adds, “If children are not asking, it’s not important to them.”[1] But if they are asking, Dr. Robin Elise Weiss advises that you “keep your child’s age and maturity level in mind when relaying information about where babies come from.”[2]

One of the best ways to do this is to read a picture book together about pregnancy that focuses on the preborn baby’s development inside the mother. Ariana Moore’s charming new book does just that. Using comparisons to everyone’s favorite treats, Sweet Baby Cakes addresses a mother and child’s shared journey of pregnancy.

From comparisons to candy sprinkle to doughnut to ice- cream cone, every stage offers insight into their deep connection and the joyful anticipation of the birth of mom’s little sugarplum.

But beyond tracing the preborn baby’s growth, Moore’s sweet story also helps young children to learn about God’s love—that they “were never a clump of cells without a soul, but always known and loved and full of God-given life,” she says.

Referencing Psalm 139:13–14, Sweet Baby Cakes focuses on how loved and valued the child is from conception through birth and onward. The ideal gift book for mother and child to share, Sweet Baby Cakes will strengthen their deep physical, emotional, and spiritual bonds.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ariana Moore studied art history in college and loves to paint and teach dance. She is a St. Louis native living in the Seattle area with her husband, four children, and two dogs.
