Heed the Pilgrims on Socialism and Critical Race Theory

Nathaniel Sullivan’s eagerly awaited book, Heed the Pilgrims on Socialism and Critical Race Theory, now available

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Nathaniel Sullivan’s eagerly awaited book, Heed the Pilgrims on Socialism and Critical Race Theory, is now available from Bedrock Foundations Press, a subsidiary of Bedrock Foundations Media, and Amazon.com. A beautifully crafted book, Heed the Pilgrims masterfully refutes the cultural narratives that the members of the Plymouth Colony stole the land on which they built their settlement and treated the neighboring Native American tribes with contempt.

According to Dr. Mark Coppenger, retired professor of Christian philosophy and ethics, “In Heed the Pilgrims,…B. Nathaniel Sullivan’s succinct and lucid treatment of Scripture’s teaching on gratitude is enough to embarrass those who find CRT even somewhat charming, and his application of the timeless lessons in economics that surfaced at the Plymouth Plantation from 1621-1623 should set folks fleeing from the siren song of the Left.”

Rigorously and thoroughly researched with commentary and complete with photos and illustrations throughout, this book contains insights rarely emphasized. Chapter 1 offers a reliable paraphrase of William Bradford’s account of the Pilgrims’ failed, two-year experiment in socialism; and chapters 2 and 3 explore the power of gratitude and faith in God to build character and to enable people to relate well with others — even individuals and groups very different from them.

To summarize, Heed the Pilgrims examines the struggles the Plymouth settlers endured, the relationships they forged in the New World, and their in-depth and abiding faith in the God of the Bible. Yet, as valuable as these observations are, the book goes even further — because knowing and understanding the historical record offers a golden opportunity to warn against and reject today’s misleading cultural narratives surrounding Thanksgiving and its origins.

“In Heed the Pilgrims, I showcase historical events and allow history itself to present the Pilgrims as a stellar example for modern Americans on how to establish and maintain ordered liberty and freedom,” remarks Mr. Sullivan. “Their example offers critical and irrefutable lessons on the futility of Marxist ideologies like socialism and CRT.”

The author writes and blogs regularly about cultural issues from a biblical perspective at wordfoundations.com; and he designs and posts original Bible studies at his second website, discoverbedrocktruth.org. While Heed the Pilgrims is Nathaniel’s first published book, it represents just one of several journeys during which he explores the testimony of history and its validation of timeless biblical truths.

Nathaniel Sullivan has experience in vocational church staff ministry and served as an editor at a major Bible study curriculum publisher for more than 17 years. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wingate University in North Carolina, and Master of Arts in Religious Education and Master of Divinity degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He now heads Bedrock Foundations Media, a publisher dedicated to promoting and presenting foundational truths to members of every generation.

Heed the Pilgrims on Socialism and Critical Race Theory is available at Amazon.com in both softcover and Kindle editions.

I love a good mystery!

“Yes, I do love the mystery genre but this book delves into the mysterious ways of God including His marvelous riddles and thought-provoking parables. It challenges how we often think we know what He meant…but did we really, or is it Christian tradition? The writing style reminded me in some ways of an English author I love, F.B. Meyer, who has been gone almost 100 years. How wonderful to find a current writer who often writes just as poetically and with such depth. The book has influenced me as I dwell on the Father’s Promise. It frequently aligns with thoughts and experiences I have, that aren’t necessarily common or accepted. I think it is good to question preconceived ideas in the light of Scripture.”

True Stories of the power of God
5 Stars

“Coming from a background of addiction, as I read through these testimonies, I could completely relate. I love the truth, the honesty, and the raw details of what it is truly like to be lost in the dark pit of addiction … There are so many self-help books out there on addiction, alcoholism, over eating, etc. But those are self-help books. Never have I been able to come out of addiction through “self-help”. It truly takes the miraculous transforming power of God to heal you from the brokeness in your soul that leads each person to their addiction. Reading each of these testimonies reminded me of the goodness of God, and how only through His power can we become a new creation in Christ … If you are struggling an addiction, or if you are in recovery, I urge you to read this book … What a surreal and fantastic book!”

New books shares a scripture teacher’s unique view on life and faith from the classroom window

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – “Every generation worries about the values and beliefs of the next. From his experience at a private girls’ school, Ken Edgecombe gives us a fascinating glimpse of how young people view — and experience — faith,” said Philip Yancey, in endorsing Ken’s new book, From Sir, With Love: Glimpses of Faith Through a Classroom Window.

For 21 years, Ken Edgecombe taught Religious Education at a private girls’ school in Wellington, New Zealand. The school was Presbyterian, but the girls were not, and he grappled every day with the challenge of presenting aspects of faith to a mixed — and captive — audience, all the while holding true to Christian essentials to win the girls’ attention and involvement in the subject.

From Sir, With Love is Ken’s story. It is honest, it is anecdotal, it is theological. It is the subject of heaven in the language of the classroom. It covers the questions of the classroom: “Is God real?” “Can faith and science co-exist?” “What about other faiths?” “Do you, personally, really trust the Bible?”

In presenting these subjects to students, Ken has had to do so in way that is palatable. The outcome of this is that Christians will also get an insight into how they too can answer such questions; either for themselves, or for those who bring up similar queries around God.

From Sir, With Love is humorous and wry and self-deprecating, and it doesn’t offer formulaic answers to life’s big questions. It will leave you wondering: What do I believe? What might I have said? It is an insight into a different world with a wonderful mix of wry, humorous, and shrewd reflections. It comes from a writer on top of his craft with a story to entertain and inspire.

It is a book you can read for the sheer enjoyment of it, and one you can pass on to someone else for the innate challenge of it, or perhaps the inspiration of it. It might be used as a resource for those who also teach the faith. A state school principal in Wellington said, “Were I the Principal of a church school, I would want any newly appointed Chaplain to read it, and then discuss it with me to see what they had learned. If they had learned nothing, their tenure might be pretty short!”

A teacher in Vancouver said, “I would thoroughly recommend this book, especially to teachers. I wish I had been able to read it years ago. So much of it applies to any conversation or discussion group on matters of faith, or indeed life in general. It’s a fabulous book.”

Ken Edgecombe spent 25 years in secondary teaching before becoming the National Director of Scripture Union New Zealand in the 1990s, and then returning to teaching until his retirement at the end of 2021. He is married to Felicia, who is a musician, and they are the parents of four sons and the grandparents of a grandson and seven granddaughters. They live in Wellington, where they remain dedicated members of their local church, and Ken takes a more than passing interest in All Black rugby.

Reviews

“Every generation worries about the values and beliefs of the next. From his experience at a private girls’ school, Ken Edgecombe gives us a fascinating glimpse of how young people view — and experience — faith.”
Philip Yancey, American writer and former editor-at-large for Christianity Today

“If this book’s effect is anything like Mr Edgecombe’s classes or assemblies, you will not only come away from reading it entertained and intellectually stimulated, but also with a new drive to become a better person. Which is the effect Mr Edgecombe has had on myself and the majority of Queen Margaret College students.”
Erinn Aspell, Queen Margaret College Head Girl, 2021

“… A great record of education and learning and of a faith in practice. And of a teacher’s journey.”
Michael Keith, Wellington writer and editor

“… Jam-packed with colour and literary appeal and wonderful wisdom coming through in every paragraph. … full of quite profound insights into Christian communication to audiences of varied backgrounds, as well as being thoroughly entertaining.”
Tom Slater, former National Director of the Australian Evangelical Alliance

“… Whimsical style and understated quips had me hooked … I would enthusiastically recommend the book …”
Peter Lineham MNZM,  Professor Emeritus of History, Massey University

“I listened happily in many Chaplain’s Assemblies, one of approximately 700 people present who felt like Ken was talking just with them. The chapters of this book give me the same feeling that the two of us are engaged in conversation, and showcase Ken’s profound skill as a storyteller.”
Jacqui Brown, Principal, New Plymouth Girls’ High School

New Release Highlights How to Find Freedom from Approval Seeking

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – “When our happiness in life is tied to the approval of others, we are trapped but may not know it. Approval is an attempt by the flesh to fill up our God-given need for worth,” says Mark Maulding, president and founder of Grace Life International.[1]

While serving as a pastor’s wife, Bible study teacher, and women’s ministry director, Cheryl Pelton Lutz found her identity in the approval of others for many years. She says, “The endless striving brought me to a place of complete spiritual, physical, and emotional exhaustion. I was not living as one who was secure in my heavenly Father’s love. I had made people an idol.”

In a new release, Securely Held: Finding Significance and Security in the Shelter of God’s Embrace (Redemption Press), Lutz, the founder of Securely Held Ministries LLC, outlines her journey to finding significance and worth in God. She says, “Exhaustion from continual striving is an epidemic in our culture.

“As Christians, we desire to be known for our love of God and service to our neighbors. But when we allow the admiration of others to define us, we end up in a debilitating cycle of people pleasing, yet never find the validation we desperately seek.”

Lutz uses her personal story in Securely Held to show women how to discover their value and find rest in the arms of your loving heavenly Father, and how to learn to live as one accepted by God through the finished work of Christ.

Solid Bible-based teaching, and the testimonies of other women who have found their identity in God, provide a scriptural and experiential foundation and add depth and value to this new release.

What Championship Dreams Are Made Of: College of Biblical Studies’ Ambassadors Basketball Inaugural Year Is Off To A Great Start

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Houston, TX – The College of Biblical Studies is looking to the future as their men’s basketball team is making history. The Ambassadors have won 4 out of 5 games with as much as a 30-point lead.

Their first home game was held Tuesday, Nov. 7 against Kansas Christian, the 2023 NCCAA Southwest Region Champions. The Ambassadors won 81-79 in a photo-finish ending, as their ecstatic fans cheered them on. Local news media were also on hand to experience this new team in their inaugural year, including KPRC 2 Sports Director Randy McIlvoy and KHOU 11 Sports Anchor Jason Bristol.

This new athletic endeavor at CBS was the brainchild of longtime supporter, Lynden B. Rose. Rose is considered Houston basketball royalty by many as a member of the iconic “Phi Slama Jama” team from the University of Houston.

CBS President Bill Blocker recognized the benefit of reaching the community through academics and sports. “We’ve been educating and equipping the Christian community for almost 50 years, but when Lynden shared his vision to reach even further through sports, we immediately recognized the benefit of sharing the Bible through basketball. Basketball provides an outlet that appeals to a lot of people, especially young men and women.”

CBS’ new mission of reaching out through basketball has attracted other basketball stars such as all-American shooting guard, Michael Young and former WNBA all-star, Patricia Luckey. Michael Young, assistant coach of the CBS men’s team, was also a member of the “Phi Slama Jama” elite. His UH Cougar jersey was retired in 2007 at the University of Houston. Patricia Luckey, who played for the Phoenix Mercury and is a three-time All Southwest Conference Houston Cougar, now coaches the CBS Lady Ambassadors.

The women’s team, the Lady Ambassadors, will play their first home game on November 14.

New Book “License to Love: Driven by Faith” Offers Unique Perspective on Faith and Positivity Through Vanity License Plates Will be Free to Download Tomorrow, November 7, 2023

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – United States—Monday, November 6, 2023

In an innovative exploration of faith, debut author Catherine Green has released her book “License to Love: Driven by Faith” (Redemption Press). The book uniquely captures the messages of hope, faith, and inspiration that she has discovered on more than 950 vanity license plates.

Catherine began her intriguing journey of documenting these messages after the loss of her brother, Jerry. In her grief, she found comfort in the unexpected form of a license plate with the inscription “ROM 8 28”. Rather than viewing it as a mere coincidence, Catherine saw it as a “Godwink”, a term coined by New York Times bestselling author SQuire Rushnell to describe divine coincidences.

License to Love” features a collection of these divine coincidences, highlighting license plates inscribed with phrases such as “B JOYOUS”, “GD WINKS”, “PRAZHIM”, “NO FEAR”, “FLE 2 GOD”, and “JC LOVES U”. Each chapter of the book offers a devotional message related to themes such as comfort, salvation, prayer, provision, forgiveness, faith, and blessings. Each message is accompanied by a relevant song title, action step, and prayer.

Catherine believes that these seemingly random messages are not coincidences but are indeed gifts from a loving God. She says, “We often think things that happen to us are coincidences when they are actually gifts from a loving God.” This belief forms the basis of “License to Love”, making it a compelling read for anyone seeking comfort and inspiration in their daily lives.

Catherine Green’s License to Love will be available for download for free on Amazon for 5 days from November 7, 2023 through November 11, 2023
