Shane Day
5 Stars – A New Way of Approaching Discipleship

“Michael Merker brings a new perspective to how drama can be used as a discipleship tool for all ages, not just children. He brings a wealth of knowledge of the theater and drama productions and he is able to express technical concepts about acting, directing, and production clearly and with dry wit. I learned so much!

“He also challenges the conventional thinking about dramatic arts by pushing the reader to think more broadly how it can be used for God’s glory. He convincingly argues that by immersing one’s self in Biblical texts (or any other texts for that matter) in preparation for a performance results in deeper and fuller understanding of Scripture, regardless of whether it turns into a production or not.”

Grace
5 Stars – Witness of Faith.

“The author opens his heart in witness of his faith and encourages others to let theirs play out in the world as well. Bravo Mr. Merker.”

New Picture Book Teaches Children About God Our Creative Father

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Long before today’s society began touting the importance of creation care, the Bible proclaimed the value of the natural world. “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it,” declares Psalm 24:1.

Very young children can learn to value God’s good creation and not take it for granted. In addition to taking their children out into nature, parents, other caregivers, and educators can share with them books that demonstrate the diversity and beauty of God’s world.

Tiffany Molden’s Our Creative Father (Redemption Press) seeks to encourage children to explore creation and points them with gratitude toward God as its imaginative maker.

“I always get mesmerized when I take a look around and notice how creative God’s mind really is,” says Molden, a Kansas-based surgical technologist. Through Emerald, her book’s narrator, Molden hopes to prompt in children “an awareness of and insight into things we may take for granted every day.”

On her grandparents’ farm, Emerald discovers so much to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. Puffy clouds, juicy fruit, dancing daisies, and playful puppies fill her day. And everything has been made by God, our creative Father. Even a sudden shower can’t put a damper on creation when it’s followed by a glorious rainbow!

Because Our Creative Father is the one who made the heavens and the earth . . . and each of us too. With its inviting voice and colorful illustrations, Molden’s book will help the youngest generation grow into faithful and appreciative stewards of God’s good creation.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

A surgical technologist, Tiffany Molden lives in Grandview, Missouri and loves travel, singing, and kids. She volunteers as a praise and worship leader and assists with the children’s choir at her church. Her goal is to point people toward God through her singing, writing, and lifestyle.

breaking the shadows

New Redemption Press release shows that female baldness can be beautiful

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Even a plethora of products and wigs couldn’t compete with the beauty found within a fierce soul that lived in complete freedom.*

“Fierce. My little sister called me her fierce friend.”

Fierce implies that we are not afraid to step out from the shadows that the enemy casts on us. And for decades, singer and lyricist Carol Chisolm was not fierce and lived in the voiceless shadows of a shame- and fear-based identity that trapped her like a cocoon. Carol has alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that attacks the hair follicles, resulting in hair loss. She covered her imperfections and increasing hair loss with expensive products and a dresser lined with pretty wigs.

And she didn’t feel any better—on the inside, at least. For over thirty years, she lived with a false sense of self—until one balmy, rainy day. As she sat playing the piano, that inner self-esteem bomb exploded. She threw away her boxes of hair products and heavy wigs—and shaved her head. A shiny, beautiful bald.

Chisolm says, “I wasted so much time hiding myself, when God just wanted to get glory through my life.” She had been so bound by chains of insecurity, low self-worth, and fear of being made fun of for her baldness that she couldn’t hear God’s voice of freedom. He was her confidence, her strength, her visibility. “Let’s go free inwardly,” Chisolm encourages, “and loose those outward bonds and chains that bind us spiritually. If we truly uncover ourselves, we will be surprised how God shows His love for us.”

Now she lives with radiant freedom in Christ and sings to the world, “I have alopecia, but it doesn’t have me,” reminding others that they too have an identity worth living. Carol uses her songwriting passion to create songs of inner freedom and peace. Join her on Facebook every Wednesday for “Wednesday Worship.” Her latest single, “Wonderfully Made,” is available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, and Amazon Music.

If you find yourself questioning your identity, your worth, and your purpose, Breaking the Shadows will help you accept your flaws and imperfections, and insecurities. If you have ever felt cut off from the world, this book will empower you to step out from behind the shadows and gently, courageously lead you on a freedom path, with action steps to reclaim your inner self.

Carol says, “God doesn’t make any mistakes. You are fearfully and wonderfully made by God. You can walk in liberty, understanding who you are in Christ.”

Rev. Sharen Long
5 Stars – Making the Bible Alive by Drama

“A unique and timely reading that encourages creativity in understanding, interpreting, and living the Word of God. Michael brings much experience and knowledge of the Bible to the delight of dramatic art. For those who love to see the Bible in a living, moving, dynamic source, this book will challenge you to see the Bible in a modern, life-giving way to portray the beauty of its truths. Highly recommend.”

Dr. Geoffrey Ross Holtz
5 Stars – Great teaching tool

“I think Mr. Merker’s method of evangelism and discipleship is brilliant. He offers to train you to do ministry in a whole new way and gives you everything you need to succeed. While Jesus never put his stories into a stage play, or musical, He was a master storyteller. He drew His listeners into His stories through parables and using everyday kind of illustrations. But He did it in extremely dramatic ways. He sometimes used natural occurrences, like a flood, as a backdrop to teach and train His disciples. This book can help you do exactly the same thing.”

The AI & the Church Initiative includes multiple components including collaborative funding, events, resource hubs, content, and participation in a cross-industry working group for the responsible use of AI in ministry.

“We believe there is a moral imperative to responsibly use technology to advance human flourishing. AI is a powerful technology that should better support, not replace, relationships,” said Scott Beck CEO and co-founder of Gloo.

The initiative includes a $25 million AI investment fund to invest in efforts at the forefront of responsible AI research and development within the faith ecosystem. Gloo will partner with other aligned investors and organizations who are also seeking to advance the responsible use of AI.

An additional component of the Gloo commitment to AI is a first-of-its-kind hackathon, an event rallying developers from across the U.S. who will come together and rapidly advance AI-based technology to serve the faith ecosystem. Partners across technology, content, research, ministry and funding are joining the initiative to ensure that the entire Church is served well in the conversation. “Understanding what AI means for ministry is vitally important to Christian leaders and their communities. We are honored to continue Barna’s partnership with Gloo for this significant effort. They’ve purposely created an initiative in which anyone and everyone in Christian ministry can participate,” said David Kinnaman, CEO of Barna.

Some of the participating partners include David Kinnaman (Barna Group), Bobby Gruenewald and Nona Jones (YouVersion), Rob Hoskins (OneHope), Ed Stetzer (Talbot School of Theology at Biola University), Kenny Jahng (AIforChurchLeaders.com), Carey Nieuwhof, Bishop Claude Alexander (The Park Church), Tim Dalrymple and Nicole Martin (Christianity Today), Ben Elmore (Servant.io), Scott Evans (Outreach Media Group), as well as many collaborative initiatives such as AI and Faith, and others (expanded list available at gloo.us/ai).

Gloo will become part of a working group of organizations coming together to align and define standards for the appropriate use of artificial intelligence in the faith ecosystem. “As church leaders, it’s important for us to approach every new technology innovation thoughtfully and intentionally. This won’t be figured out by any one organization—it will take a concerted effort across the faith community,” said Bobby Gruenewald, CEO of YouVersion.

“Our ultimate goal is to connect and release the collective might of the Church. The AI & the Church Initiative is all about helping leaders do that,” said Steele Billings, Head of Gloo Exchange and AI Initiatives at Gloo. “We know leaders are asking how or if AI can benefit them in their ministry and in serving their communities. And most importantly, how can it help people have deeper relationships with God and one another? Whether it’s collaborative funding, new technologies, gatherings, or equipping resources, Gloo is committed to empowering church leaders to responsibly leverage AI to help fulfill their missions.”

Gloo welcomes faith leaders who are eager to help the Church drive a global conversation around the responsible use of AI. Find ways to get involved and read Gloo’s full statement at gloo.us/ai.

the late great secret rapture

“Like a Thief in the Night” New End Times Release Adds to the Discussion on a Literal Rapture

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – We’ve all heard about the rapture. The concept of all Christians being suddenly snapped up to meet Jesus in the clouds, just in time to escape the wrath of God on earth, is as popular a trope in secular culture as it is in the church.

A 2016 study by LifeWay research* says 36 percent of pastors claim the rapture will not be a literal event. If even pastors have their doubts, is it any wonder there is no consensus as to whether the event will happen at all, or when it will happen (pre-, mid-, or post-tribulation).

But even in these perilous days when many say that end-times prophecy is playing out before our eyes, doubt exists about the validity of the harpazo (the biblical Greek word meaning “to openly, forcefully take up” or “to openly and suddenly catch away”).

In his new book, The Late Great Secret Rapture (Redemption Press), author Dennis Farrell has assembled the research and prevailing thought on this subject. Drawing on the knowledge and expertise of dozens of pastors, authors, and scholars, Farrell has created a comprehensive study of this mysterious concept. But can readers expect to be persuaded to draw the same conclusions as the author?

“My intention,” says Farrell of his book, “was to present my thesis and hope it will inspire evangelicals to investigate these interpretations for themselves.” Farrell’s intent is not to merely give us the answers, but to guide us to study the Bible for ourselves. It’s that complexity that encourages us to ask questions and continue to study the Word, praying for Holy Spirit’s guidance.

The Late Great Secret Rapture won’t give you a day or an hour for the return of Christ, but it will help clear up some questions and help you draw your own conclusions.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dennis Farrell was born again in 1975. After teaching for thirty-five years at Luzerne County Community College in Pennsylvania, he is now retired. A member of the Gideons, he has done missionary work with Jews for Jesus. Married for forty-seven years, he and his wife have three children and seven grandchildren. He is the author of Examples and Principles of Psychology in the Bible, Post-Trib, Is God Judging America and the World?, The Day of the Lord, and The Late Great Secret Rapture.

Suggested Interview Questions

  1. How important is it for believers to understand the end times?
  2. Many people have never heard the term “silent rapture.” What exactly does it mean?
  3. You did an impressive amount of research for this book, and cite many sources. Did your perspective of the rapture change, or was the view you went into it with supported?
  4. Could we discuss your personal view of whether the rapture will happen before, during, or after the seven-year tribulation?
  5. The Bible is 25 percent prophecy. What is your opinion of pastors who avoid teaching that part of scripture?
  6. What do you think 1 Thessalonians 5:9 means when it promises God has not destined us for wrath?
  7. Is your goal for this book to change minds about the rapture, or to spark an interest in personal study of Scripture?

Will I Have to Brush My Teeth in Heaven

Mum who tragically lost two children shares deep hope in new book

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Loss and suffering is hard at any time and it is human nature to struggle with it. As a parent, hearing of someone losing a young child is heartbreaking. In the case of Emma-Jane McNicol, she faced the death of two of her children, in different circumstances, within two years.

Emma-Jane, a New Zealander and Roddy, her Scottish husband, were left picking up the pieces after their two precious boys died. Emma-Jane was left with big questions regarding her faith and how to hold on to it.

In her compelling new book, Will I Have to Brush My Teeth in Heaven?, she reveals the true story of her family, beautifully blessed, also being tested almost to breaking point. When faced with the illness of their baby son Samuel, they had to quickly adapt to hospital life with a sick child, and then to life without that child after he passed away.

Only eighteen months later, tragedy struck the family again. This time it was their second son, Ben, who at six years old, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Devastatingly, he also passed away five months later.

This incredible book was written to not only tell the McNicols’ story, but to encourage readers who are grieving, or who are trying to support others who are facing their own grief with the hope of Jesus. It is not a glib offer of hope. It is an honest account of the searching questions that this raises.

While her book’s subtitle states ‘holding on to hope in the death of a child,’ Emma-Jane says that she has often been known to say that, at times, her experience was not a hold, but more a clinging or a grasping onto hope in the face of loss.

“Experience of loss can be incredibly lonely,” Emma-Jane says. “In sharing my story, my aim is to help others who walk a path of loss to not feel so isolated, but to feel heard and to feel their pain acknowledged. This is particularly important for Christians because when faith is present, we may believe in a God of miracles, that he can move mountains, he can change the situation, He is all-powerful.

Yet when our mountains of pain are not moved and we do not get the miracle we are so desperate for, how do we hold on and how do we know that we are heard and still loved?”

In this powerful book Emma-Jane says: “I have experienced the spirit of despair and felt the pit of grief deep within my being. But when I am there, whilst it feels as if I cannot breathe, I have a sense that I am not alone, despite my physical aloneness. I think that there is a God standing beside me collecting all my tears.”

She also gives her insight into Heaven; not looked at from a theological background, but from a grieving parent trying to work out where her child is and what that child’s existence in Heaven may now be. At the end of dealing with the big question, Is Heaven Real? Emma Jane concludes: “We have been shown a glimpse of Heaven in the Bible so that we may spark a desire and want to go there, but he has not taken off the whole wrapper.

“We can still be filled with anticipation – like a child in the sweet shop longingly looking at the wrapped lolly, knowing that the best is yet to come when the wrapper is removed.”

As you journey through their story, you will be challenged to consider some big questions. How do you:

respond to suffering?

forgive others that hurt you?

help others in their loss?

hold on to hope when it feels like you have lost, or are losing, everything?

The McNicols’ story, and their ability with God’s grace to overcome, will encourage you to go deeper as you ponder God’s love for you and others – even when the longed-for healing, or answer to your prayers, does not come. There is a hope that is greater than what we see in this world come and be enthralled by it.

Will I Have to Brush My Teeth in Heaven?, published by Ark House, is now available globally. To connect with Emma-Jane go to www.ejmcnicol.com.

New book reveals confidence is a part of wellness, confidence a leadership attribute

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Whether you are focusing on your mental and emotional well-being or developing as a leader, self-confidence is vital. Award-Winning Author, Evangelist, and Life and Leadership Consultant Pamela D. Smith seeks to equip women with the tools that they need to increase their confidence and self-worth and position themselves as leaders all from a place of wellness.

It took years for Pamela D. Smith to own the power of her voice. Succumbing to what others said over her led to years of shame, doubt, insecurity, and low self-esteem. She would eventually start speaking over herself, renewing her mind, and aligning her words with God’s word, and start decreeing what God said about her.

She used her words to break free from the internal messages of unworthiness, lack, and guilt and allowed the word of God, along with biblical principles, to usher her into a realm of confidence, self-worth, success, and wellness.

Pamela’s latest book, Decree It: Using faith-fueled self-talk to increase your confidence, self-worth, and success, is a self-help resource that guides readers to greater confidence, a renewed sense of purpose, a commitment to wellness, and a newfound love for life.

Using empowering words and practical insight, Pamela helps you overcome negative self-talk, helps you embrace your God-given identity, helps you overcome shame and guilt, and helps you change your language to faith-fueled self-talk so that you experience greater joy and abundance while becoming an impactful leader.

“It was my lack of confidence and self-worth that held me back, for years, from developing into the leader that God created me to be. Becoming a teen mother and having to apologize to the entire church stripped me of my confidence. That embarrassing moment, at the age of 17, would lead to years of shame, guilt, and unhealthy emotions. I want others to know that the love of Jesus is redeeming, restorative, and refreshing.

No matter what others speak over you, no matter how bad someone else tries to make you feel, you must come into agreement with the word of God, speak the word over your life, and embrace the unconditional love of Jesus Christ. Decree It is the resource to help you do that.”

Decree It is available as a bundle; a bulk order of books with a virtual workshop for your women’s group or organization taught, by Pamela.

Overcoming Gravity of the Heart

It’s a sign of the times: Can science and Christianity agree to disagree?

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – If one is to believe a stunning report put out by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC),* global warming will make our planet virtually uninhabitable for humans by the year 2040.

At the same time, a poll by Barna Group** reveals that 40 percent of Americans believe we are living in the biblical end times. With so much agreement regarding when the world will end, why is there such a line in the sand over how it began?

In their new book, Overcoming Gravity of the Heart, authors William M. Diamond and Robert W. Fredricks explore how the Bible explains creation, with a scientific bent. They leave no doubt that God is the creator of the universe, allowing for some degree of truth that wends its way through the alternative explanations provided by the scientific community.

With so much dissention over the subject of creation, Diamond and Fredericks wrote this book to enable believers to offer a rational view of creation events. If a believer expects to make an ironclad case for creationism, they need not only to understand the Bible but to have at least a rudimentary grasp of the big bang theory.

After all, the best starting point in any debate is to find common ground and come to a respectful understanding of the opposing point of view.

The authors explain the theories in question in a way that is both thorough and understandable to the layman. However, their intention isn’t to persuade anyone away from the inerrant truth of the Bible. “Our primary goal,” they say, “is to enhance and fortify believers’ faith in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.”

Beyond stating their case for creationism, the authors give a compelling overview of how the earth as we know it will come to an end. If one is to believe that God created the earth in six days, after all, one needs to believe His promised plan for its ultimate demise. But this news, for those who have accepted Jesus as their Savior, is worthy of celebration!

They will be with God for all eternity, which no one can argue is a very long time. Whichever side of the creation argument one chooses fades in the shadow of which side of the eternity fence they land on.

And swaying readers toward that eternal decision could be the ultimate point of this book on creation.

New Release is a Historical Fiction Novel Based on the Shroud of Turin

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – New technology, Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering (WAXS), provides new evidence that the Shroud of Turin is approximately 2,000 years old.* Author and shroud expert Guy R. Powell has extensively researched the Shroud of Turin, depicting the image of a crucified man that many believe to be the image of Jesus Christ.

He says, “This new testing is exciting as it provides more evidence that the Shroud dates from the time of Jesus,” Powell said. “There is such mystery associated with the Shroud. Some think it is the authentic burial cloth of Jesus Christ. Others believe it to be a thirteenth century fake. Scientists, theologians and even Christians can’t agree.”**

In a new release, The Only Witness: A History of the Shroud of Turin (Redemption Press), Powell uses facts and hypotheses to tell a compelling, fictional—yet plausible—story of the history of the Shroud of Turin. In his intriguing account, readers learn of the shroud’s miraculous survival from harm and destruction despite wars, crusades, floods, and fires.

“Other books on the Shroud of Turin are purely historical or strictly scientific books, but I wanted to create an intriguing story that everyone can read,” Powell said. “The Only Witness can be enjoyed as a novel, yet it allows readers to simultaneously learn facts about the Shroud of Turin along with tenets of the Christian faith.”

Spanning two millennia, The Only Witness relates an account of the burial cloth’s journey from Golgotha in Jerusalem through Asia and into Europe, to its final resting place in Turin, Italy, where it has been housed since 1578. Four hundred years later, in 1978, extensive scientific study began in order to prove or disprove its authenticity.

He is president of marketing company ProRelevant and author of five business books, with his most recent book achieving a number one ranking among Amazon’s international bestsellers in four categories. The Only Witness is Powell’s first fiction work and brings to life a compelling, possible, yet plausible, story of the Shroud and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Remarkable book helps children understand the importance of protecting God’s planet

God Is Sad. Earth Is Crying is your pathway through different stages of the earth’s existence. Initially, you step back in time when the universe was beautifully created. In the present, you observe how global warming has affected each continent. In the future, you reap benefits from your guardianship role protecting earth’s delicate balance.

God Is Sad. Earth Is Crying creates awareness about how global warming is changing the natural identity of earth. From biblical creation and Noah’s Ark to today, God’s creation has always been special. However, many humans have forgotten about their responsibility to protect the environment. When nature is damaged, life becomes broken and distorted. Sadly, this results in nature becoming unnatural.

Melting polar ice sheets are common. Anxious, stressed and frightened Polar bears become stranded on small slabs of floating and melting Arctic ice. Rising sea levels from melting Arctic ice erode coastal areas in the Northern Hemisphere. Melting Antarctica ice sheets provide extra water that flows towards the Pacific islands which contributes to submerged coastal areas.

God Is Sad. Earth Is Crying connects biblical facts and truths about God’s perfect creation and the role that humans have in maintaining God’s creation.

In Genesis 1:26-30, God gave humans dominion or control and authority over animals and the entire earth created by God. This means that we must protect and safeguard the earth’s environment, animals and vegetation. We have a duty of accountability, care, purpose and responsibility to protect animal habitats, and natural landscapes e.g. the atmosphere, vegetation and waterways.

Many animals and vegetation have become endangered and extinct which cannot be reversed.

God Is Sad. Earth Is Crying is described by two metaphors. One, God is sad about damage to planet earth’s environment. Two, earth’s widespread damage from global warming results in earth’s tears of sadness. From a perfect creation to now, God sadly sees earth’s tears about global warming damage across the continents.

Albeit, hope exists when humans use their guardianship role in protecting the delicate nature of life on earth.

Embracing God’s Eternal Adventure: How Johnna Hensley Turned Adversity into Inspiration

Johnna Hensley is thrilled to announce the release of her debut book, Reckless Yes: Exchanging Worldly Ease for God’s Eternal Adventure.

When Johnna Hensley’s firstborn son, Hayden, entered the world with a neural tube defect and severe special needs, she faced a life-altering decision. Would she lean on her faith and accept God’s plan for her family, or would she succumb to despair? In her debut book, Reckless Yes: Exchanging Worldly Ease for God’s Eternal Adventure, Hensley shares the powerful story of how she chose hope and transformed her family’s challenges into an inspiring journey of spiritual growth.

Johnna and her husband Ryan went on to have two more biological children and adopt three times, creating a diverse and vibrant family that relies on God’s grace each day. Their “wild bunch” of six children, complete with twins, wheelchairs, medical equipment, and a convoy of minivans, often attracts attention – but Hensley sees this as another opportunity to reflect Christ’s light in the world.

In Reckless Yes, Hensley combines her personal experiences with teachings on God’s character, challenging readers to abandon their fears and boldly embrace God’s plan for their lives. Through wit, wisdom, and heartfelt storytelling, she offers a glimpse of the eternal hope found in Christ and encourages others to seek after Him with all their heart.

This captivating and inspiring story will resonate with anyone facing adversity or searching for meaning in their own lives. Don’t miss Johnna Hensley’s Reckless Yes, a testament to the power of faith, determination, and God’s eternal adventure.

Johnna Hensley’s book, Reckless Yes: Exchanging Worldly Ease for God’s Eternal Adventure will be available to download for free for five days from June 6 through June 10, 2023. Reckless Yes has launched with rave reviews. Here’s what just a couple reviewers have said:

MaryD
5 Stars – Courage through Faith

“The story of the Hensley family (special needs, fostering, multiracial adoption, etc.) is a fascinating one of faith overcoming fear; saying yes when God asks even though the world thinks it’s crazy. Her family’s journey reminds us that our mission is not to take the easy way, and that this world is not our final destination. We are preparing for a great restoration to come.”
