In a world where women face mounting pressures to excel, achieve, and conquer, mental health struggles are becoming increasingly prevalent. Melissa Croucher’s latest book, Secret Letters from God’s Heart: A Devotional of Love, Grace, and Healing for the Fearful Heart., offers a beacon of light for women seeking solace and healing. Drawing on her personal journey with a loving Father, Croucher empowers women to embrace their true worth as valued, precious, and deserving of healing and peace.

This is the best parenting book I’ve read, and I’ve read a lot! It’s common sense, unlike so many popular theories of parenting. It focuses on God-centered parenting vs child-centered or self-centered. Excellent!!

Pray for China, celebrate The World Day of Prayer for the Church in China on May 24

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI issued a letter to the Church in the People’s Republic of China and designated 24 May, the feast of Our Lady of Help of Christians, as an annual worldwide day of prayer for the Church in China.

He prayed that Catholics around the world might support “the commitment of those in China who, among their daily labours, continue to believe, hope, and love, so that they might never fear to speak of Jesus to the world and of the world to Jesus.” Finally, Pope Benedict implored the Mother of God to “help Catholics to be always credible witnesses of love, remaining united to the Rock of Peter, upon which the Church is built.”

Care for Chinese Catholics

Since the beginning of his papacy, Pope Francis has shown special concern for the Chinese faithful. Every year on the Day of Prayer, the Pope never fails to show his affection and connection to all Chinese Catholics.

A key moment in diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the People’s Republic of China took place on 22 September 2018, with the signing of the Provisional Agreement.Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin praised the agreement as “both a point of arrival on a long road and, above all, a starting point” for “a new phase of greater collaboration for the good of the Chinese Catholic community and the harmony of the whole society. “We must walk together,” said Cardinal Parolin in an interview with the Global Times, “because only in this way can we heal the wounds and misunderstandings of the past, to show the world that even from distant positions fruitful agreements can be reached.”

Religious development in China that is sustainable

After China’s reform and opening-up policy was enacted, Catholicism had rapid and consistent growth. Because of its lengthy history, broad territories, and numerous population foundations, China has developed a diverse religious environment. There are roughly 200 million religious individuals in China, including approximately 6 million Catholic believers and approximately 8,000 religious faculty members.

Furthermore, there are around 38 million Christian believers and approximately 57,000 religious faculty members. On the mainland, there are 98 Catholic Diocelle and almost 6,000 churches and activity halls. Catholicism’s missionary activities in mainland China are likewise expanding.

China has printed over 100 languages and 160 million Bibles for over 100 countries and regions. The Chinese church printed 80 million copies of Chinese and 11 ethnic characters. Many religious organizations and venues now have websites. The religious education system is always being enhanced.

As of September 2017, the China State Bureau of Religious Affairs had approved 91 religious schools and institutions, including 9 Catholic colleges and 21 Christian colleges. Catholicism’s teaching was also refined and broadened.

Furthermore, the administration and growth of Catholicism are standardized. Religious organizations and religious venues use the national unified taxation system, pay taxes in compliance with relevant national legislation, and benefit from tax breaks; infrastructure and public services also cover the location of religious activities.

China encourages religions to modernize, adapt to socialist society, and contribute to promoting economic progress, social harmony, cultural prosperity, and national unity. In the long history, different religions have been introduced into China, and there are few conflicts and confrontations with religion as the background, which is very rare.

The variety of religious views and worldwide religious interactions have both been acknowledged at the same time. The Chinese religious community has developed friendly ties with religious groups in more than 80 countries in order to take part actively in conferences that are connected to religion on the principles of independence, equality, friendliness, and mutual respect and the level of religious freedom is rising.

Catholic communities in China will organizing prayers, novenas and festivities leading up to the World Day of Prayer for the Church in China. Some prayer encounters which included non-Christian participants will also hold. Some events included a special prayer to Our Lady of Sheshan, Our Lady Help of Christians, asking that she come to the aid of all Christians and protect China, allowing for an abundant flourishing of the evangelisation effort.

the joy of fear

Powerful new book will helps those experiencing fear to overcome it

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – In grade 4, Jani Marshall had a mental health breakdown. Why then would she go on to write a book called The Joy of Fear?

Jani experienced chronic anxiety all her life. When she was a teen, she had difficulty making the simple decision of going out or staying home. if she went out, she was likely to have a panic attack, and if she stayed home, she could also experience a panic attack. She thought that everyone lived like this, but was able to live their lives in a better way.

She would wonder how others got through the days and nights so well, while she was debilitated daily. Anxiety was not diagnosed for her until she hit peri-menopause.

Throughout Jani’s life of anxiety, she discovered in her Christian walk that God wanted her to fear Him. Fear was exhausting. Now God wanted her to live in more fear, she incorrectly assumed.

In her powerful new book, The Joy of Fear, Jani reveals the steps you can take so you don’t have to follow in her footsteps. Fear and worry play such a key part in so many people’s lives, but as a Christian, you can do something about it. Fear grips Christians just as much as it does others in society, so there is a clear need to understand the difference between fearing God and the general fears that life can bestow upon us.

Along with her anxiety story, Jani, who along with her husband, pastored churches in Australia and Canada, clearly explains what is meant by the fear of God. She clarifies why God wants us to fear him, how to fear him and the rewards of fearing him.

Convenient questions at the end of each chapter can assist in leading a group study on the fear of God.

Jani has a unique writing style; easy to read and she simplifies the teaching of the word. Jani brings in examples from her own life to assist the reader in understanding the content of each chapter.

Jani conducts a Counselling Clinic in Brisbane Australia. She holds a Master of Suicidology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling. Jani specialises in suicide, PTSD and grief and loss and, of course, anxiety.

For more information on her counselling, visit https://www.purecounselling.com.au. The Joy of Fear, published by Ark House, is now available globally.

5 Stars – So Good!

“I LOVE the format of this book! It includes personal stories of Kyra’s life–from her childhood to her tragic death as a young wife and mother of three. It tells the story of God’s faithfulness in Kyra’s life, both in the stories collected from friends and family as well Kyra’s own journals. It also includes a devotional section based on Kyra’s journal excerpts and Italian recipes! You will feel like you know Kyra once you finish reading this even if you never got the chance such a fun-loving and Godly person who this easy but soulful read describes.”

being the boss

Rhyming picture book shows that ‘Being the Boss’ isn’t always best

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – “You’re not the boss of me!” Are children naturally rebellious? Many a weary parent or caregiver has certainly thought so, and Christian parents in particular may attribute a child’s disobedient behavior to their sinful nature.

But as Dr. Gwen Dewar observes, “Studies confirm that kids aren’t inclined to mindless, unreasoning rebellion . . . [but] when they think that an authority figure is overreaching—meddling in their personal affairs—kids are more likely to resist.”*

Nonetheless, parents need to “equip children to meet the demands of reality,” and healthy limits are necessary to that end. According to Dr, John Townsend of Focus on the Family, “Research shows that children who experience a household of clear and appropriate boundaries, delivered with love and warmth, are much better equipped to meet the demands of reality over their lifespan.”**

Establishing appropriate boundaries and behaviors for children in an authoritative rather than authoritarian manner increases their sense of security and of self.

Finding a way to show children that rules and boundaries are meant for their well-being, not their control, can be challenging though. In Being the Boss, author Vicky Wedel presents a humorous cautionary tale of child rebellion gone awry. Kids will relate to the child-narrator’s insistence on being able to stay up late, neglect their chores, and stuff themselves with sweets—but when a dream enables the narrator to live the “bossy” life, kids will understand that stepping into their parents’ shoes isn’t all fun and games.

Wedel’s story isn’t meant to be one of rigid reproof though. Instead, she depicts ways in which respect for rules and authority can lead to closeness with family, creativity, and even fun. Whether at home, school, church, or out and about, children can enjoy growing in faith and maturity as they come alongside the adults in their lives as humble—and happy—helpers.

“We can trust God’s plan is good,” Wedel says, “and He teaches us much through different authority figures.” Being the Boss helps kids and their caregivers come together to recognize that the “bosses” in their life provide rules out of love—especially the best one of all, Jesus.

crazy praises

Tragedy of Losing a Child to Cancer Inspires Talented Bush Poet

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Emerging Australian author Christine J Bourne, delivers the Christian message in true Aussie style in her new book, Crazy Praises.

Chris’s writing has also been inspired by her youngest daughter, who tragically passed away from cancer. That life-changing experience brought her closer to God and also helped inspire her ambition to write.

A traditional bush poet, Chris is a natural storyteller, bringing to life stories of people, places and profound and personal experiences with God in a way that is authentic and relatable. The poems are humourous, thoughtful, joyful and intriguing. Emotions are stirred and God’s promises are revealed.

Bush poetry has a meter and rhyme that draws in the reader/ listener and the message about God is delivered straight to the heart. It’s an unusual style in Christian publishing, but it really works.

Chris has been writing this way from early childhood and it’s not only a gift from God, but a gift she shared with her father, who was a talented bush poet, writer and entertainer.

Her family were outdoor showmen, following the agricultural country show circuit through most of the east coast of Australia. She travelled in the truck with her father and they’d tell stories or recite poetry as the miles flew by. He’d make up a line, she’d come up with the next, no matter how absurd, and they’d laugh at their creative collaboration. Her mother would take Chris and her sister to church every Sunday in whatever town they were in.

The years spent travelling developed in her a deep love and appreciation of God’s works. She is moved by the beauty of wild landscapes and of His beautiful creatures. Through her faith, she came to see how God works in the diverse lives of people she knew.

Chris says that she loves writing this way and is grateful for this beautiful gift of being able to speak to the hearts and minds of people about how great God is.

The inspiration for her first book began in 2018 at a church service in Maleny, Queensland.  The Pastor at Church on the Rise posed the question: why do fast days go so slow? She wrote a poem of the same name, the same day and it led to her first book Ice Cream is Good but Jesus is Better, a volume of poetry that posed the question If what you’re doing isn’t working, why not try God instead?

Another book, Who is Your Goliath? followed a year later. This book explains how God works in our lives. She also draws inspiration from everyday life from the Bible and from the “Word for Today” published by Vision Christian Media, both essential reading for her, on a daily basis.

Crazy Praises is Chris’s third book of contemporary Christian poetry and she says that the inspiration for Crazy Praises came from reflecting on the many times that God has moved in her life and how grateful she is for His help. Like her previous books, Crazy Praises is a collection of real-life stories or observations about life that are clever, powerful, personal and encouraging, reassuring the reader of the ways God loves us and helps us. The poems “The Last Wish”, “The Feather on the Floor” and “Last Thursday” all have a personal connection.

They speak of a dying man’s last wish, unexplained messages from beyond the grave and a church community helping to repair a flood damaged property. Other poems come from things that have happened, people that she knows and how great our God is and how worthy of praise is He.

Crazy Praises poses difficult questions, then answers through the storylines of a poem and finishes off with powerful prayers. It’s joyful reading for those who believe and thought-provoking for those who don’t know God. All three books are published by Ark House.

Chris has a Diploma in Christian Counselling, is mad about horses and lives on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland with husband Peter, who has been a horse breaker and trainer for over 40 years. He calls himself a horse “listener’ and says he tries to help them find their peace. Between them they have 14 horses and 2 dogs, Joy and Archie.

There is no doubt in Chris’ mind that Joy was a gift from God as Joy came into her life a month after Chris’ youngest daughter passed away from cancer. God’s ways are wonderful and often He uses animals to help us heal. Chris is on the Chaplaincy Committee at the Maleny High School, served as a volunteer with Joy as a therapy dog at the Aged Care facility at Maleny and is a member of two church congregations – St Margaret’s Anglican at Woombye and Church on the Rise, Maleny.

Chris has written five books including her father’s Memoir The Last Mile – Tales of a Travelling Showman and is currently writing two more books of Christian poetry. You can find more about Chris on the website ChristineJBourneauthor.com or her Facebook page ChristineJBourneauthor.

anna's story

‘So much more than a book’: Anna’s Story inspiring readers to fall in love with God all over again

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – A new book that dissects the story of Anna the Prophetess has received remarkable feedback from readers, with many stating it has dramatically changed their walk with God.

Carol Anderson, who told me she had exceptionally poor English skills before embarking on writing her new book, Anna’s Story – Woman of the Secret Place has achieved something much more remarkable that a book of words.

Instead, Carol has created a book that delves closely into the life of Anna in desperately wanting to know Jesus more closely. Who was Anna? What made her go to the temple? What caused her to come back and stay? What did she experience all those years fasting and praying? What was it that gave her the most incredible relationship with Jesus?

As Carol has shared her book to a wide range of women, they have been overwhelmed with the message inside. In a meeting of Christian women at The Gathering Church in Tweed Heads, Australia, Bev, the host of the meeting, recounted the story of how she shared Anna’s Story with the group.

“The other week, we shared from Anna’s Story,” she recounted. “Oh my goodness; this is not just a book. I’ve read thousands of books in my lifetime and many have impacted me with knowledge – Wow. This tugged at my heart.

“There is such an anointing on this book.  This is so beautiful. It is so inspired by the Holy Spirit. The way the scriptures are weaved in was so clever.  But you could tell it wasn’t just done by a person. It’s amazing. It’s so amazing.”

Bev went on to tell me how it didn’t give her knowledge, but it made her want deeper intimacy with The Lord.

“I just felt myself praying through it all the time,” she said. “It’s remarkable, seriously it’s a remarkable book. As I read it, I thought to myself, ‘I’ve never walked in such depth about this’.  This is remarkable and is a passionate love story that as it unfolds, it seriously inspires you to have a love – a romance with the Lord.”

Anna’s Story is a personal journey, which portrays the timeless plans of God our Father and His Sacrificial love for each and every one of us.

As one reader stated, “As I was reading this book, I quickly discovered it was not just a story but an experience with my heavenly Father. For me it was a journey of His heart drawing me into Him.

“His healing power washing over me as the pages drew out pain that had been hidden deep below. The author of this book is a precious vessel that carries the intimacy of God in her Spirit. That very spirit flows through this book as you read it.”

Anna’s Story, published by Ark House, is now available globally.

the mending chronicles

When Christian families divorce, The Mending Chronicles book offers support for children (Because they don’t bounce!)

FAITH NEWS SERVICE – Malaga, Spain, 2 May 2023

Natalie Knox, the author of ‘The Mending Chronicles of Liam and Emily’, is happy to announce the release of the digital version of her faith focused, interactive, divorce recovery book for children.

Natalie Knox, a South African author living in Spain, has released her interactive, divorce recovery paperback book for children as an eBook for Christian families. With its focus on faith, emotional intelligence and dealing with change, Christian families will find The Mending Chronicles a helping hand during their transition. She says that people tend to think that kids just bounce back from divorce, but they don’t. They need support and a safe space to process change. Natalie’s eBook, with its downloadable activity pages, is available on most major online eBook retailers.

“With any big change in life, we need time to adjust. If this event has been as life-changing and deeply emotional as a divorce, how much longer would we need to truly recover? Possibly years? If so, surely, we should use that recovery time to help our children process their thoughts and emotions in a healthy way. We can set them up for a life of good emotional health, effective communication skills and solid emotional intelligence,” says Natalie Knox, author of The Mending Chronicles of Liam and Emily.

Natalie Knox is a qualified teacher and has had a career in primary school teaching. She has been a community lay counsellor for children in crisis, including general on-call trauma work and specialised divorce recovery counselling. She is currently working as a writer, taking the experiences she has had in the classroom and in the counselling room, to create stories that touch hurting children’s hearts. Her book, The Mending Chronicles of Liam and Emily, was a finalist in the 14th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards.

Liam and Emily are the main characters in The Mending Chronicles of Liam and Emily. After the divorce, Liam hates feeling like his life is out of control and questions whether the whole thing was his fault. Emily feels insecure and fearful, and when her mother brings home a new boyfriend, the changes threaten to overwhelm her. Between the meaningful conversations with trusted adults and the spiritual wisdom offered by the Bible, Liam and Emily begin to adapt to the changes divorce brings. This eBook is designed for kids to reflect on their own divorce story using the fun, downloadable activity pages. These provide a safe space to process, problem-solve and reflect on their own reality.
